I can't think of much that can be substituted for potatoes. But I'd imagine if you put some frozen brussel sprouts and/or broccoli in there for the last hour, they'd soak up some of that juice, and still not be mushy. Maybe as low as 30 minutes. It'd take some experimenting.

Your father is partially right. There's loads of "studies" out there, and baseless warnings, documentaries, etc that push through false proof that their way is better. After he produces studies, you'd have to tear them apart, and prove why they're b.s. As close minded as they are, that in itself would be a huge undertaking. As dren-dk says, when you're successful, and they're not (if they're not), then they'll try it your way. So stay the path, it's not only your health, it's that of your father and brother that you can change.

My g/f DVR'd The View yesterday, thinking I'd want to see it, because the whole show's subject was Obesity In America. An obesity specialist (MD) was on the panel, and said that a big reason why America is so fat, is because food is always plentiful ("especially fatty foods"), and we all have less reason to go out and get exercise, because we watch so much TV, and play so many video games. Then, he says a bit later that the poorest Americans are the ones afflicted the most. Poor people are fatter. Doesn't that conflict somewhat with the theory that an over abundance of "fatty foods", and video games are the cause? Unless poor people suddenly have excess food and Nintendo Wii's?

Same here. The first time I did it, the weight fell off, and I ate and ate and ate. This time, the first few weeks I didn't lost a pound, but man did I feel LOADS better. Eventually, while still not counting calories, I lost 60 lbs. It pretty much stayed there, until I started counting. Lost another 23 so far.

LOL, I hear ya. One of the things I thought was just "normal" for me, was frequent, loose bowel movements. Then go to keto, I'm down to once a day (like friggin' clock work!), and it's so comfortable, I'm on a high for like 20 minutes afterwards.
