Hey r/Design, I'm playing around with the reddit homepage using the API. How am I doing?

Yes, it's a bit too much at the moment. I'm still working on that. I want to play with the font size (and use some nice typefaces) so that the blocks are not such a...clusterfuck.

Specific design critiques are great. How we make this more awesome/ usable? How would you do it? I have a number of things in mind (it's certainly not done) but would love to hear what you guys think.

While reading through psych research I was actually a little surprised to find what did seem to matter. A shared interest in "Star Wars" is nice, but not necessarily. It's more important that two people share the same age, "social role" (students tend to be friends with other students), and political ideology, things like that. Even height tends to be a factor. And at the end of the day, most people have something in common.

Yes, this is a group I definitely have in mind as well. There are similar issues within my own family. I think it could do a lot of good. The matching system does take marital status into account, as well as age gender and interests.

I've been working on a startup for about a year to take on this very problem (think Meetup.com plus a matching algorithm so you can actually do stuff with people you'll like). I'm still about a month away from a Beta, but I'm working my ass off because, man, I can relate. Totally PM me if you want an invite once the beta comes out, or if you would like to help out!

One of the study's authors, Stephen H. Schneider is my late uncle. He was a Macarthur fellow, and believe me, knew what he was talking about. Climate denialism is truly akin to evolution denialism, except climate denialism has worse consequences. You can't read something on Wikipedia that fits your narrative and then pretend to be an expert. Climate is extremely complex; leave it to those people who have studied it their entire lives. They're convinced, that's all that should matter.

My aunt and late uncle are part of those top 200 climate scientists, so I want to put more emphasis on that point: 98% of the people who study this stuff for a living (and are among the smartest people I've ever met) overwhelmingly agree that climate change is man-made. It's time to stop being that guy who cherry picks something from Wikipedia, adds a personal anecdote, and pretends you have an opinion that can stand against the accumulation of 40 years of peer-reviewed research.

The facts cited in this article are completely made up. Since we live in an age where the correct statistics can be found via a short trip to Google (an American company) likely using an Intel processor (an American company) in order to get to Wikipedia (an American nonprofit), it reminded me that while I agree with the idea that we need single payer health care and more equitable wages, America is still a pretty awesome place to change the world.

Health care. The US spends 17% of its GDP on health care while most other industrialized countries spend 9% on their evil socialized medicine. By nearly every reasonable measure including infant mortality and life expectancy the US system is more expensive and shittier. Also it kills 40,000 people every year because many people can't get insurance, or are dropped from their plans when they get sick.

It's not the fault of the insurance companies per se, the incentives are just in the wrong direction. It's not like competition and scale make health care more efficient, insurance companies make money by denying people care, and they have an obligation to their stockholders, not patients.
