Saturday Morning Breakfast by Hoppishin food

I wasn't making any claims about his or anyone else's diet. I was merely pointing out that your claim about accuracy was incorrect.

Of course it is. Just because it's not tangible doesn't mean it's not measurable.

See Gross National Happiness.

I just realized that life expectancy is used as a proxy for health, but it doesn't consider quality of life at all.

Long life != quality life.

Fine, I'll just show you that it's not accurate. A cheeseburger has way more saturated fat than this breakfast.

McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese: 12g saturated fat (source)

This breakfast: 2g per egg (source), 1g per slice of bacon (source) = TOTAL: 7g saturated fat

Even if you add a few grams for the other fried items (even though we don't know what they were fried in), you're still under 12g.

Please explain how it's "accurate" to call this breakfast nutritionally equivalent to a cheeseburger.

No, BananaBandit is not right. Yolk color has almost nothing to do with the chicken being "free range," it has to do with their diet.

...which I now see is a point you made below, so I'm not sure why you're defending his comment here.

Darker than usual? What's usual? Yolk color is affected by all kinds of factors, not just whether or not the egg came from a free range chicken.

IRT the "Thank you letter to NYC Realtors": Yes, the rent is too damn high, the proliferation of lousy brokers stinks, and this is why it happens. by ngrootin nyc

I don't understand your point. Are you saying that rent increases should match a typical 12 month return on an investment in the stock market?

It's not blood, if that's your concern. It's way too bright red to be blood.

airbnb in NYC and border/customs issue? by the_spruce_caboosein nyc

Yes, you are being paranoid. That said, you aren't staying at a hotel, so don't tell them you're staying at a hotel. Just say you rented a place in New York City. If they ask for the address, have it available. Vacation rentals are very common.

I went to Limelight once, in 1995. I was in college (upstate, almost in Canada) and came down to visit my buddy who was taking some summer classes at Pace.

Previous to that summer, I hadn't been in NYC since 1983, when my aunt brought me down for a visit. She literally lived next door to Joe's Pizza at 6th & Carmine...but that's another story.

Anyway, my buddy is ridiculously attractive (mixed black and white) and was dating a ridiculously attractive mixed hispanic girl. They wanted to show me a good time, so we got dressed up (no jeans!) and got in line at Limelight. It was easily a few hundred people long, but we got in anyway and hoped for the best.

We'd only waited a few minutes when a fabulous little man with a clipboard and two gigantic drag queens came down the line, took one look at us, asked how many (3!) and brought us to the front. It was the best feeling ever!

Once inside, I was so excited I wanted to buy us a round of drinks. We decided on Long Island Ice Teas (come on, we were stupid kids), so I got up the the bar and ordered three. "$24," the bartender said.

My reply was something like, "No, I just ordered three drinks."

"Yeah, $24."

I couldn't believe it, because back at school a Jack and Coke was $2. $2! Anyway, I was in NYC and I didn't want to look like a dipshit, so I left $30 on the bar and said thanks.

We put our drinks away pretty quickly and decided to explore the club. Upstairs was the first place I ever saw two guys making out. The real surprise of the evening though, was seeing a guy, totally naked, being led around the club by a woman wearing all leather and holding a dog leash attached to his penis! That blew my mind. I think I probably spent the rest of the night talking about it.

Does anyone else do this? Walk home via as many different pizza places as possible. by usualnameusualin nyc

He should have ordered the White slice at Ben's. That thing it killer!

Burnt at the stake by the media - a young climbing mother's experience in UK when photos are taken from her blog by NickColtonin climbing

[–]bradlauster -3 points-2 points ago

From my perspective, you're missing the point because you're using an unnecessarily specific definition of risk.

Take a year of data for all drivers in the UK and all climbers in the UK (or anywhere for that matter). I'd bet that a higher percentage of drivers are injured while driving than climbers are injured while climbing.

It's just a guess, but if you have data that shows otherwise, I'd love to see it.

Care to explain?

For example: On lists of sports ranked by likelihood of injury, biking is consistently in the top 5. I have never seen climbing in the top 20 on any of these lists.

I didn't see the pictures, so I can't comment about the specific situation, but it sounds like a typical case of people being worried about the wrong things.

If the people getting bent out of shape actually cared about the child's well being, they'd be up in arms about putting the kid in a car or on a bike to get to the climbing spot. Statistically, trips via car or bike are WAY more dangerous than climbing.

Reddit i need a new mouse and maybe a mousepad, and i'm afraid of buying the magic mouse, are there alternatives? by zeitg3istin apple

[–]bradlauster 2 points3 points ago*

Totally disagree. Whether a mouse's design works with your hand is a personal matter. I'm a professional designer and use a Magic Mouse all day, every day at work, and wouldn't trade it for anything. The panning/scrolling I can do using the Magic Mouse's swipe surface saves me loads of wrist strain.

I'm with you. Magic Trackpad is useless for design work. You need more precision that it affords. I use a Magic Mouse and love it.

I'm a professional designer and I've tried Wacom tablets on several occasions over the years. I just don't like them and feel I can be much more precise with a mouse. I use a Magic Mouse and love the thing.

It's definitely a personal thing. I use a Magic Mouse all day, every day, at work and have never felt it to be uncomfortable.

I love my Magic Trackpad, but it's awful for design work - just not precise enough.
