TROPHY CASE

Not sure if I can wait for next week's moronic monday for this one. by viola3458in running

[–]blue_lotion 1 point2 points ago

It took me longer than 30 min to run a 5k after I finished C25k. I ran 30 min a day for a while, then measured by miles until now. Now I know where about mile markers are for 3-10 miles and just run what feels good that day. I was so anal about it for the past year and it stressed me out. Note that I am not training for anything, just running because I love it.

I am currently trying to get my first job. I also have serious anxiety issues. What can i do to reduce my anxiety, and get myself hired? by IntoxicatingLogicin AskReddit

[–]blue_lotion 1 point2 points ago

I am a corporate recruiter; talking to candidates is a good part of my day. Here are some tips, hope some of them help! Mainly I find a lot of anxiety comes from not knowing what's gonna happen. Preparation is key.

  • write out the main points of your experience that you want to talk about. Have it in front of you or tucked in a portfolio/notebook if face to face. I still do this. I have a cheat sheet of main points that I glance at through the interview.
  • Look up "behavior based interviews" and/or "situational interviews". Find a list of sample questions. These interviews are much more common. A good way to prepare is make a list of a few times you were hero for a day at work, a few times when you fell flat on your ass and some other random experiences that aren't good or bad, just unusual for the job. When coming up with times you failed, make sure they are examples where you were able to fix the error at least to some degree. Don't use an example that ends in "then everyone went to jail"

Those are the two things I have noticed that help a lot of people.

I do much of the same. I run a lot and lost a bunch of weight this year (good thing, I gained a lot of weight during that marriage). I do see a therapist-best hour of my week!

Great job, you look fantastic!! One question though-how do you feel on 1300 cals with all the exercise you do? My runs would tank.

Amazing! You are me but with English type courses. There usually is one, final right answer in math. Every time I handed in an English paper I never knew what grade I'd get. A? F? Why? Why was my A paper better than my C paper? How can I duplicate the A? I DON'T KNOW

Female Pilot Kicks Passenger Off Plane For Sexist Remarks by momia42in TwoXChromosomes

I dunno, they kick people off of planes for all kinds of reasons. If someone is making the whole plane feel the pilot can't do her job, I can only picture a plane full of people feeling really :/

I feel the same! I started reading it a couple of weeks ago and now feel comfortable contributing. People normally just find me a scatter brain and unorganized and I don't want to backtrack and explain well there's this condition...

ooh boy the complaining, I know that one. I somehow found a group of friends who complain as much as I do so I can get it out of my system in my safe zone.

Has anyone's ADHD negatively impacted their social abilities? by DoubleTapThatin ADHD

This is VERY good advice (your tips) and I wish I could personally push it to the top. Social skills are one of my fortes and my job depends on it.

Same here. I do very well in social situations. People seem to find me very quick on my feet during conversations. The become quite tiring then I go on media blackout for a few days afterwards.

I'm 31, graduating from college in 2 weeks, and I'm not proud... Can anyone relate? by melomelain TwoXChromosomes

[–]blue_lotion 1 point2 points ago

If it helps, I felt much the same way you do when I graduated at 27. I went to cosmetology school out of high school and realized it's not what I wanted to do. When back to college around 20 then had a baby on my own around 22-and I was already taking the scenic route to start with. My friends all had great jobs, one was already a lawyer by the time I graduated. The overgrown 20 year old was a perfect representation of how I felt. Being a mother I also felt way out of place as it was. I didn't go to the commencement, either.

good news is I got over it, and so will you. The other good news is now many more doors will open to you when you start your career, or try to progress in one you have.

Thank you! You guys all really helped me get through yesterday. I know it's a common diagnosis, but when it's happening to me I feel like the only person in the world who feels this way. haha I don't mean I'm happy you all have ADHD, but I am glad folks understand.

"Sharepoint Expert" to me simply means someone who can use it for more than 5 minutes and not put a bullet through their own face.

I didn't know about this. Maybe my flush would have made all the difference.

My mother still doesn't trust me with valuables because I lost my discman 9 years ago. What things do your parents/relatives still unfairly hold against you? by xxneonlovein AskReddit

[–]blue_lotion 1 point2 points ago

That's actually sorta funny-my sister and I were just talking about this. Normally we don't talk to my dad an excessive amount. When we call, he's always in the middle of something and shoos us off the phone after a few minutes. When we are visiting him is when he goes into panic mode, like all of a sudden seeing me makes him think I'm still 8 or something.
