Because your opinion speaks for everyone right.

People want Al Gore to be President. People want free Machine Guns for all. People want you to shut the fuck up because you're a dick.

So you want to learn (CAD Package)?? /rant by bigalexein EngineeringStudents

Yup that's it. Go grab something and do it. Asking blatantly to learn the software just doesn't work.

You want to be an engineering technologist... we are heavy in application but light in deep theory.

Removable Silencer? by MarshmallowBulletsin battlefield3

[–]bigalexe 17 points18 points ago

I think the OP misunderstands the suppressor attachment.

The suppressor is implemented in a manner lending itself to game balancing. An actual suppressor redirects expanding gasses exiting the barrel into its can and this prevents some of the noise associated with a firearms audible report. The OTHER noise from guns that few people are aware of is the sonic boom of the bullet as it breaks the sound barrier. A suppressor alone cannot mitigate this and the only solution is sub-sonic ammunition.

In video games the suppressors are combined with sub-sonic ammunition. This means the bullets fly slower and so they drop "quicker." Also the slower rate of travel reduces power as KE=m*v2 .

Removing a suppressor will not mitigate the effects of increased bullet drop and reduced power. What will mitigate the effects is swapping out magazines for one with regular super-sonic ammunition.

So does the suppressor still matter with super-sonic ammunition? Well yes in fact it does because as I said earlier it mitigates the sound caused by the expanding gasses exiting the barrel. So it will still be slightly effective but not as effective as it could be with sub-sonic ammo.

So what you are asking for is an option to use regular ammo with the suppressor. A removable suppressor will not help. In fact in reality many of the suppressors for rifles above .30 caliber are designed in such a way to also act as a Muzzle-Brake also called a compensator. So removing a suppressor on a large rifle not only makes it louder but increases felt-recoil and barrel rise by reducing the mass of the weapon and also removing the effects of the compensator.

What's the most degrading thing you've done for money? by theknightwhosays_neein AskReddit

Why is this degrading? As someone who is currently on SSI and going to college with the money I don't see how this is degrading.

*UPDATE* as promised: 28/f who had 60% of her lung removed today and can't fall asleep in the ICU by WhosThatGirl_ItsRachin IAmA

Bah Chest tube... my side feels weird just remembering what mine felt like. Also drainage tube removal was SOO weird because that thing was so long.

Anyway good luck on recovery and hey NO ONE sleeps right in the ICU.

That actually makes sense.

[–]bigalexe[S] 0 points1 point ago

Well actually I think one of the open cans has been in there for a week. I left town and left my vehicle at home. I've encountered the issue a few times and always it was 24-48 hours maximum but this time having left town I forgot to clean my car beforehand. Coming back a week later to a can that felt nearly as full as I'd left it spurred the question.

How does (US) military issuing work? by bigalexein guns

[–]bigalexe[S] 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't referring to willingly changing so much as changing due to absolute necessity and even more so was referring to instances where you may transfer optics/foregrips/stocks to a new receiver rather than willingly swapping out mods on a good receiver.

Yes I concur that similar sighting systems take little training as anyone can tell you who handles shotguns regularly. Not much variance when they all have 2 beads on a rib. Even in the instance of pistols put the front post in the slot and level it doesn't vary much. Then again I was considering the difference between being basically competent and then being expert enough to maintain that ability in a stressful situation.

As far as making something too complicated? Well the way my brain works I try to imagine any possible scenario and try to account for how I would deal with that situation. It's an engineering design thing where I don't want things to fail. Then when they do fail I'd like to design them in such a way as to minimize the down time which in turn will maximize the operational capability of whatever I am working on. In this instance I'm not really designing anything but my brain decided to start asking "What if" anyway. Hey maybe down the road I come up with a way to make weapons systems even more universal than they already are?

[–]bigalexe[S] 0 points1 point ago

When it comes to other privately owned upgrades (stocks, grips, optics) it is at the unit commander's choice if he will allow them, and he can limit it to certain specifications that fit his whims (ie- replacement buttstocks can only be magpul brand, or replacement parts may only be a certain color, etc.)

As for weapons going down in firefight, most COPs and FOBs which are reasonably secure have ranges used to zero, so the new optics or weapons can be zeroed. A soldier might end up with an M16 if their M4 for example is destroyed (which is a rarity), depending on what is left in the arm's room.

That largely helps explain away my wonderment.

There's the answer I was looking for.

What is one statement that you stand by but might get unpleasant reaction from others? by no_front_teethin AskReddit

[–]bigalexe 0 points1 point ago

Oh, most people here in MI refer to it as CCW and they mean Carry Concealed Weapon which is actually the name of the crime committed by carrying without permit.

[–]bigalexe 1 point2 points ago

I own three guns, I need more, I need to get my CPL (Concealed Pistol License also called a Concealed Handgun License, License to Carry, or too often incorrectly called a CCW), and I carry a knife or multi-tool daily.

So given an instance of checking out something new. Presumably you would transfer any mods over to it but what's the policy on training time before you are expected to be operational?

I'm curious because like I said I'm someone who wants to be very familiar with my equipment even against paper targets. I mean yes theoretically if I'm trained to use a certain type of sight system then swapping between two identical rifles should be seamless but variance happens and it's not always as simple as picking up the new identical counterpart and being ready to go.

Simple trying to wrap my head around a concept.

Help me understand barrel length by ChicagoTed12in guns

[–]bigalexe 0 points1 point ago

Which is why long barrels make no sense to me. I made a post awhile ago about trying to develop loads to burn exactly as long as the bullet was in the barrel and got told I'd be overcharging the gun and also it was just a plain fucking terrible idea.

So why even make a 24" or 18" barreled rifle over a 16" if as you say it just hurts accuracy?

Can I use my enhanced driver's license to get into New York through Canada? by lilmul123in Michigan

[–]bigalexe 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but you forget... Credit cards, debit cards, RFID in passports, security cameras, store "rewards" programs, registered vehicles, cell phones. There's probably more but the point is you are already tracked to death regardless of licensing.

Do you have a social security number?

Can I use my enhanced driver's license to get into New York through Canada? by lilmul123in Michigan

[–]bigalexe 8 points9 points ago

YES... just drove from MI to NY and back this week. That's the entire point of an EDL is it is also a Passport Card. The Passport Card allows land or water/sea access (But NOT air travel!!!!!) to Mexico and Canada both ways. Us border states are cool though and instead of getting it separately we can get it combined with our DL and not have so many papers to worry about.

Question about getting license to carry. by ButtFuckinghamPalacein guns

[–]bigalexe -1 points0 points ago

According to Federal law which trumps state laws drugs are illegal. That makes users criminals regardless of what state (geographic) they are in. I like guns and would like to see freedoms expand with regard to guns. Assisting criminals (whether convicted or just casually admitting crimes on Reddit) to obtain weapons does not help the cause of expanding gun freedoms.

Now if drug laws changed on a federal level I might be found to change my opinion.

What I don't understand is reddits problem understanding that drugs are illegal. They aren't legal in some states, they aren't just a little bit illegal but in fact are just as illegal as rape and murder. It sucks but it's reality and everyone would do well to understand the concept.

Question about getting license to carry. by ButtFuckinghamPalacein guns

[–]bigalexe -4 points-3 points ago

You are an idiot plain and simple. Why the hell would you carry a gun in an altered state of mind? You are an inherent threat to yourself and those around and also lied on the 4473 when it asked about substance use/abuse. I hope you go to jail for your felony in addition to NEVER EVER getting a CPL or EVER handling a weapon EVER again.

What were the days after 9/11 like? by argonautsin AskReddit

I've never flown Pre-9/11 but I know that flying today blows. Now I do travel light so it's not as bad for me as say my mom who thinks it's necessary to carry a giant-ass purse that just begs to be searched but still it's a pain.
