Honestly, I'm not sure how the tigers are being cared for or maybe lack of at the Tiger Temple, but don't let that discourage you from visiting Kanchanaburi. It's beautiful. It's very peaceful - different from bangkok. If you do find yourself in Kanchanaburi next year though, make sure you visit the Erawan Waterfalls. It's a 7 tier waterfall/hike. Each tier has a natural body of water housing Nibble Fish (maybe better known as Dr. Fish) They like to eat dead skin cells off your feet.
