Design newbie here, wanted to create a t-shirt. How did I do? by gcarolianin Design

I'd wear it! Great job. They're right about the limitations of screen printing, but you did a hell of a job.

My first Ai experience. I saw something similar and decided to make my version :) All comments welcome! by cool_playain Design

[–]benjaminmktn121 2 points3 points ago

What's most important is that YOU MADE SOMETHING. You saw something you liked, you came up with an idea for how it should look, and you made that exist. That is the greatest thing in the world, and why a lot of us do this. You did a fantastic job.

As you progress you will learn some guidelines for clarity and readability, many of which people will tell you about in the comments. But if this is your first time making something in Ai, revel in the fact that you made this and it's yours before you worry about how many typefaces we think you should use.

Personally, no. When I bought my copy I went unabridged because they apparently cut out some dinner scene that leaves you confused. It's a great book, I don't think anything should be cut out if you're reading it to enjoy it.

SCREENSHOTS PLEASE. That sounds VERY interesting! I'd also like to know how you do that. I use three, I'd love to kick some extra stuff like recount over on another screen.

Ah yes. Excellent. I was planning to incorporate threat and DPS into this UI, so I'll do my best to take care of that. Thanks for the input!

Bingo. Simple and clean by default. Tell me more about what you mean by "offset from the edge" if you would.

What class do you play?

My startup makes software for smart-devices. Does this work or is it too boring/bland? (please note, my clients are corporate cos and not individuals) by kabuliwallahin Design

[–]benjaminmktn121 1 point2 points ago

Of course! The only reason I think getting that aspect ratio is important is that we're used to seeing iPhones and iPads being a certain size, and when you see other ones, they look...different. This will help people identify with your logo, subconsciously going "HEY I KNOW THAT SHAPE."

As far as uniqueness, I'd take a step back away from the computer, and start thinking about what identifies your brand, and makes it special. Sounds silly, but a lot of app companies like this go with a blue/grey theme, so you're going to want something that sticks out, which means getting some concept in there. Sketch, sketch, sketch, sketch. Work icons of devices into the letterforms, work symbols associated with your trade, anything that identifies your company and what you're trying to convey into that logo.

Thinking back now, I can't actually remember what your company's name is. This is your main goal—make people REMEMBER that name, by doing something clever that makes it stick in people's heads. A professor in college I had said it was about giving them just enough information that they could bridge the gap, and realize what you're doing—that makes people remember it.

Let me see what you come up with, I'm happy to keep helping!

It's a little simple, I think you could refine it some to make it more unique. Right now the biggest thing that stands out as an issue is that the aspect-ratio of the devices is done to fit the text, rather using a familiar aspect-ratio and setting the text inside. Experiment with setting DAFEN in a heavier weight also. A good start though, I like the blue too!

EDIT: Also you should know on a black background like on imgur, they don't look like the devices, just white squares with dots.

Hi, /r/booksuggestions, would you please recommend me something? by gallezin booksuggestions

I'm in the same boat with you, I can't get around books about hillbillies, but if you can tolerate the Shitfuckville residents in Of Mice and Men, I highly suggest you look into East of Eden. It's not quite as Shitfuckville-y as OMaM, but still set in rural early America. But I've never read a more compelling plot. EoE is incredible.

Books to read on a plane? by readyornot20in booksuggestions

The Crying of Lot 49! Very mixed reviews on it, but it's short, you can brag about having read Pychon, and it's not like anything else you've read (unless you read a lot of Pynchon).

I just started Moby Dick, and I'm really liking it. Before that I read Lolita by Nabokov, which was one of the finest reading experiences of my life. Incredible writer. Subject matter is dicey, but not erotic. You can get over it.

Other suggestions:

  • Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin: a compelling author, great story with lovable and absolutely detestable characters

  • Johnathon Strange and Mr. Norrell - Clark: Haven't gotten around to reading all the way yet, but you might find it similar to Jekyll/Hyde.

  • The Art of Fielding - Hardbach: Finished it a week or two ago. I'm not a baseball person, but it didn't matter for this book. He took nine years to write it, and it shows. Incredible drama, deep characters, surprisingly engaging story for what I thought it would be.

Happy reading!

Second for Monte Cristo. I read it over the course of a semester, partially on audiobook, and it became one of my all-time favorites.

I suggest you read some work by Bart Ehrman, an ex-priest turned historian who does a great deal of research on the historical Jesus.

This would be a fine place to start, and you might want to read this, this, or this after. Happy learning!

Furthermore, IIRC "Jesus" comes from Joshua, a very common name at the time. Many tombs in the area are labeled "Joshua/Jesus," none of which housed the Biblical Jesus.

You invite people over to play, sit down and go "alright, before we have fun, let's fill out these forms and page through this huge book." Kinda kills the mood. We got through it, but it seems like I was doing something wrong for how dull it became.

I like this more abstract approach, very helpful! Thanks.
