How do you check the latency?

Anybody shave at the gym? by kaybizzlein wicked_edge

[–]belyle 0 points1 point ago

I am probably definitely more paranoid about some of that stuff than other people. However, and I see that someone below me also pointed this out, gyms are noisy places. Seems like that would be another point against shaving there. Hard to hear the whiskers cry.

My point remains that it's a gross place, though. I try to avoid touching my face for anything when I'm at the gym.

How to protect your smartphone from malicious QR codes by RunFromTheSunin Android

I think that the best defense against this isn't another app. I think that it's a little common sense. Don't scan codes that you don't know the origin of. Use a scanning app that doesn't automatically launch the link (e.g. Google Goggles lets you preview the link before it runs).

Anybody shave at the gym? by kaybizzlein wicked_edge

[–]belyle 1 point2 points ago

I'm sorry, but I have to be "that guy." I really get annoyed with people who feel the need to bring their entire hygiene routine to the gym with them. That includes shaving. I totally understand packed schedules, and I understand wanting to workout in the morning and shower and be ready for work. But, the gym is a place to work out. (incidentally, it's also not a place for cell phones, lengthy conversations with your workout partner/bro, a place to scope out the other members, a place to find dates, or a place to do the butt-flossing with a towel). The gym bathroom is a shared resource, and it's also kind of an icky place.

First off, even at a gym with multiple sinks (mine has ~7), if you're setting up for a wet shave, you're essentially taking up two: one to shave in, and the one next to you that nobody will use (like the no homo urinal spacing). Plus, if you're using a sink next to the wall, you're probably also blocking one of the paper towel dispensers or hand dryers. That's just plain rude.

Second, I don't know about you, but I think that gym bathrooms are one of the most disgusting places I ever go. Athlete's foot fungus and MRSA run rampant at gyms. No matter how clean the locker rooms seem, the reality is that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of sweaty nasty dudes sharing the same area as you throughout the day. Do you really want to be touching your face, possibly with little nicks, after touching anything in a gym bathroom? Hello, I'd like you to meet Mr. Staph infection.

Third, I get really nervous even when it's just my wife walking behind me when I shave. I use a safety razor, so I know that the damage would be minimal if she accidentally bumped my elbow or something, but I still want to avoid that if at all possible. I would never take the risk at the gym where there's a lot more foot traffic and the people couldn't care less if they accidentally bump you.

TL;DR: Just don't shave at the gym.

Quick question about traveling with your shave gear. by gotissues68in wicked_edge

[–]belyle 2 points3 points ago

I think that the razor itself is fine in carry-on luggage, but you will probably not be allowed the blades. I can't see them blocking shave soap, but creams have to follow the 3 oz or less rule. Brushes should be no problem. Aftershave will also have to follow the 3 oz or less rule.

Note that all your combined liquids/pastes (yes even toothpaste and shampoo) will have to fit in the same ziploc bag. They used to require it to be a quart size, but I'm not sure that applies anymore.

3 days to prepare for 24h solo race. Help?! by loki_racerin MTB

[–]belyle 3 points4 points ago

My personal favorite endurance ride food is peanut butter sandwiches. PB and honey are good for a quick energy, PB only are a little harder to choke down but don't spike the energy so bad. Make sure they are on a whole grain bread (my favorite is Dave's killer bread) for a slower digestion and more metered release of energy.

I say if you got a free entry, then go give it your best shot! You might not finish, but you may surprise yourself and stay alive for the whole thing. You've got nothing to lose.

Listed as not shipped, but arrived today in Washington (the state). About fucking time. Primal could do better with communication and speed, IMO.

Warning to those who root by 7x6equalsin Android

Downvoted. This has absolutely nothing to do with rooting a device. Unrooted users can have this problem if they do a data wipe and have to add their Google account back on their phone.

Quick shave in the morning by Churchlessin wicked_edge

[–]belyle 2 points3 points ago

Unfortunately, my facial hair is dark, and my skin is light. So, I "suffer" from the look that I constantly have a little bit of stubble. However, if I get a good shave the night before, my face is still smooth enough for me.

[–]belyle 5 points6 points ago

I shave at night. My job isn't a stickler about appearance, but I prefer having a smooth appearance every day. I find that if I spend the time in the evening to get a DFS or better that I still look acceptable through the next day.

Matte White HTC OneX + Jeans = Blue HTC OneX. by ggabriele3in Android

[–]belyle 2 points3 points ago

I wear jeans of varying newness and color and haven't had any problems with color transfer. But, I put all my stuff in the lined front pockets. If you're gonna be carrying your phone in your ass, I bet you're gonna get transfer just like OP.

I agree with you. I can't imagine why anyone would want to keep their phone in their back pocket, unless maybe their jeans are too skinny to fit it up front.

It comes from France (or at least it's made from French ingredients) so... france?

You're probably right. I have the original scent. I picked it up at Rite Aid or Walgreens. I've been using it for about three months and the level in the bottle has only gone down about 1cm. Going to last a long time.

I don't think anyone has asked the most important question here: front or back pocket? The Verge review specifically said "back pocket" which will of course have the phone in contact with the denim. Front pockets are lined, and the phone won't be touching blue.

I've only tried the Pinaud, and found that it's great.

Mystic Water Soap Review - Coconut Lime Verbena by belylein wicked_edge

[–]belyle[S] 1 point2 points ago

I've tried that, too. I don't squeeze all the water out, but I find that giving a gentle squeeze allows me to better feel how much water I'm leaving in the brush than a shake does.
