You split them before, keep them on different hotkeys if you want to, or whatever. It's easy to keep track of the p army and thus be able to split before the fight.

If the vortex catches even half of the brood lords it's still going to be a fight the zerg loses in most situations

But if the zerg player were to perform some sort of separating action, a split, if you will, they could prevent half of the brood lords from being sucked into the vortex!
