Dan DiDio Calls Before Watchmen A “Love Letter” To Alan Moore’s Creation. by giamgiamin comicbooks

[–]ardentatheist 9 points10 points ago

I'm pretty sure DC's entire 5-year plan consists of three words: "Troll Alan Moore".

TIL: Total number of shots fired by German police in 2011: 85 (german article, translation in comments) by oblongoblongin todayilearned

Just amazing. What would that number be for the USA - for comparison's sake? Some internet sleuthing turned up bupkiss.

200 mil and 100 mil was what Warner threw at Green Lantern's production and marketing budget respectively right? Seems like Disney should have spent a lot more than that on Avengers. For this kind of cash, 600 mil seems like a very decent opening.

Yeah, I don't know who thought it would be a good idea for Wildstorm (and Vertigo) to be incorporated into the DCU. Neutering characters like the Midnighter and John Constantine? Why, just why?

Some classic Wally West. by rawlingstonesin comicbooks

[–]ardentatheist 2 points3 points ago

Oh man, I have the perfect suggestion for you: get your hands on The Return of Barry Allen by Mark Waid. It is how I grew to LOVE the Flash. It develops Wally West as a human character filled with enthusiasm for his job and a desire to lie up to the example of Barry Allen.

Buy it, read it, love it. If you want more then pick up Waid's Terminal Velocity and the rest of Waid's run. Gosh I envy you reading these stories for the first time!

TL; DR: Mark Waid's The Return of Barry Allen.

Silk Spectre by Amanda Conner, unconfirmed so far but seems to be enough evidence that is real with Grey and Palmiotti writing it. Another piece to the Watchmen 2 (aka: prequel) puzzle falls into place. by riverbirdin comicbooks

I just finished reading The Extraordinary Works of Alan Moore. It's an extraordinary insight into him and his relationship with DC.

DC just seem like the big, bastard, evil record companies of yore in their dealings with him. Seems like this will be the final nail in the coffin.

First, get Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men - it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it may just rock your boat. Then:

Millar and Hitch's Ultimates,

Ennis' run on Punisher

Got visitors from the states this month. Told them I was earning ~6% on the money I have in the bank. Their minds were rather savagely blown.

Can't see how anyone in the states is interested in saving when the interest they earn is less than inflation.

I loved his JLA run (as well as the 12 issue JL:Elite). Although I am sure I'm in the minority here. Worth checking out.
