Best French cookbook for someone who has never cooked french food? by Coppanuvain Cooking

[–]annjellicle 0 points1 point ago

I used to collect cookbooks from different cultures. I say "used to", because that is one of the "collections" I'm shedding in an effort to declutter my world. Glancing at my stacks, I have 4 cookbooks focusing on French. There may be more. I can't say if they are "the best" for learning, although one of them claims to be, as the title is "The Best Ever French Cooking Course". :-) PM me if you want them.

Woman who attacked Obamacare apologizes after breast cancer diagnosis by igonjukjain politics

The reason (as they see it, not that I agree here) is that they "paid for it" through working all those years. If you are young, you haven't "paid for" SS or gov't medicine by working. They see it as a product they have purchased rather than a benefit the gov't is providing.

Mine does. If she's sleeping alone and sort of half wakes up, she wakes up all the way. If she reaches our and finds me (usually my shirt collar) she falls right back to sleep.

I'm a vet.

And lying about being special forces happens all the damn time. He was probably a finance clerk in Kansas, not a sniper in Syria.

And if he's never heard of this MOS, and doesn't know how to look it up in military literature, he's a dumbass, and likely not SF.

Linking to the description of an MOS that has been around forever (with the same description) does not confirm or deny anything you've alluded to.

It's just a miltary jailer. Used to be MOS 95C. Cage-kickers. This has been a job in the military forever, with this same description.

I guess the assumption is that they are all just jerks that have the money but refuse to hand it over. Again, makes no sense, but that's the only conclusion I can draw from such a silly law.

And it's not some law that's rarely enforced, either. I have the police arrest reports for my county "friended" on facebook, and that comes up at least 3-4 times a month.

Not sure what they are supposed to do at that point. I had a friend whose brother was jailed over this, and he spent 2 months in jail (stuck because he couldn't pay anything from there) and he only got out because his parents ponied up some $2000. That can't be the solution for everyone. (shouldn't have to be for anyone) He wasn't "holding out" on anyone, he really just couldn't afford to pay.

In my state (Georgia) they suspend his driver's license and put him in jail until he pays, which makes no sense, because if he couldn't pay before, he certainly can't from jail or when he loses his job from being in jail.

Turning the heel? by ThisJustGotAwkwardin knitting

[–]annjellicle 1 point2 points ago

My advice is find a good pattern (the silver's sock class was link to by someone else, it's great) and just do it! It will seem weird and silly at first, then suddenly a heel will appear. Just follow the directions exactly and all will work out.

Do any other ladies feel this way? by wondering_personin TwoXChromosomes

[–]annjellicle 4 points5 points ago

I used to do that. Then, a guy I was dating at the time (many years ago) said (basically) that if he compliments me, and I say "no, I look bad today" or "I'm not really... (pretty or whatever)" that I was questioning his taste and judgment. Like, saying he had bad taste or standards, because after all, he was dating me. This stuck with me and I don't even think things like that anymore. Just say thank you. :-)

Just had a baby. The nurses gave my son a bottle and a pacifier while he was in the nursery. I'm so pissed. by siouxsie_siouxin Parenting

[–]annjellicle 4 points5 points ago

They did the same thing with my (now 11 month old) daughter. I was so pissed. I yelled at 2-3 nursery nurses. (yes, they asked me beforehand, and I said no pacifiers, then she came back with one, I yelled, and she came back with one AGAIN!)

But, she refuses a pacifier now (since about 2 months old) and we've successfully breastfed for 11 months (with plans to continue as long as she wants)(within reason). :-)

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
