TROPHY CASE

Two-Year Club

'I discovered that a boys 2XL fits the same as a medium, and is only a quarter of the cost. God bless the child obesity epidemic!' Anyone know how far it's true?

annjellicle 1 point2 points 15 hours ago[-]

Yes. I am female, but a polo/golf style shirt is kind of unisex. I can buy the boys 2XLT at Old Navy for $7 instead of the women's M one that is $18.

The silver tame fox, a special breed of animal developed via intentional domestication in Siberia, is now available for purchase in the United States. Only a few years ago they were being culled due to lack of funding.

annjellicle 3 points4 points 1 day ago[-]

OMG... those are freaking adorable! $6000 is a little pricey (all of my animals have been "free"), but man they are cute!

Did you see the claws on them, though? Like a cross between cat and dog claws... SCARY!

Researchers from Washington University in St. Louis say they've managed to eliminate diabetes in rats using transplanted pig cells -- and here's the kicker -- without the need for anti-rejection drugs

I do as well, with the same cancer-free results!

I dare say, with a few more stories like this we can move from the realm of anecdotes straight into statistical anomaly. And we all know that's just a step away from truth, right? :-P

I just have to respond to the "increase in Batman shirts" part...

I am a 30 year old woman... I have Polly Pocket hiking boots, Darth Maul sandals, Batman sneakers, Transformers velcro shoes...

I wear a size 3 in kids shoes... It's AWESOME!

(and yes, cheaper: When my brother and I were in high school, "Grant Hill" Nikes were all the rage. He was pissed when we went to Foot Locker to get some and I could buy the little boys ones for $40 and his were like $125!)

Then find the 2XLT ("Tall") ones... Slightly smaller selection, but they should fit well.

Today, while shopping for polo shirts, I discovered that a boys 2XL fits the same as a medium, and is only a quarter of the cost. God bless the child obesity epidemic!

ADHD or Gifted/Creative?

Keep taking the meds as long as they are "working". Look for something "more interesting" in the meantime, and switch to that when you feel the time is right. Then worry about getting off the meds. It may be that the "something interesting" isn't what you need, either, but if you've found something that makes you feel productive and at least a little better (the meds), stick with it until you find something even better.

TLDR: Stick with the meds, switching to "something more interesting" may not work. Stop the meds after you find something else that works, not before.

You can go all the way through the (17) levels at the Goethe Institute and have $2000+ left to actually go to Germany for the price of one beginners course at this place...

This is Geneva, I found her in the road a few weeks ago and now she comes to work with me.

Oh good... Not good that she was dehydrated, but good that it wasn't some horrible, unspeakable thing and she got the vet help she needed. :-)

Cute! :-) But, what's wrong with its foot? (Do I even want to know?) :-(

That cat looks adorably evil!

My school allows dogs. There are always 4-5 dogs hanging around either in class or wandering the halls waiting for "their people" to finish class.

My cats do. They come when you call their names. One of them even plays fetch.

But... I agree with the posts above you about the names degrading to "cuter" versions... My three are Grizabella, Barbossa, and Luther, and they regularly get called Bell-Bell, Fa(t)Cat, and Loof. Or KiKi...

Gah... How do cats do that?

How religion destroys minds. Consider the future of this six-year old boy.

WTF is the deal with Baptists and Mormons?!

I was a good little Baptist for a while, until my best friend, who was a Mormon, took me to temple with her. Then a few weeks later my Sunday school teacher was talking shit about Mormons, and I decided this was a good time to get out of the church.

What do they have against Mormons?

The "submerge vs splash" thing is based on which flavor of Christian you happen to be. I'm pretty sure I was just "sprinkled" at about 3 months old (Southern Baptist family), but I know when I was in Germany my friend's sister was fully dunked at about 6 weeks old. I think they were Roman Catholic.

Cool... Sounds like an interesting book... Thank you. (really)

My mother just told me she had about 5 years left.

annjellicle 2 points3 points 5 days ago[-]

My grandmother was given 6 months. She actually said the cliched (and smartassed) "I don't have an expiration date on my ass" and found a new doctor. She lived for 6 more years after that, and the doctor that gave her that initial timeframe passed away in that time due to the very disease (non-hodgkins lymphoma) that he had diagnosed her with.

Life is fickle, and strange. Enjoy what time you have, however long it may be.

Well, I don't think the cultural bias has anything to do with it... I am pregnant and I plan on breastfeeding, as many of my friends do, and I plan on doing so whenever and where ever the child gets hungry. Breastfeeding (in a traditional sense) doesn't bother me at all.

But, the gender thing really does blow my mind. I'm not offended by it, just... confused in a disturbing way.

Holy crap, it's the thing from Harry Potter that the Dark Arts teacher tortures with the forbidden spells... I always thought that was something made up for the movie. Apparently they are real. And I never, ever want to see one in real life. shudder

Oh won't you please take me home

But, I am moving to this one, and I will definitely look into having one installed. :-)

Sounds like the dude on Guitar Hero. He would probably suck if he tried playing a real guitar, though...

How did the American English accent originate? Was there a similar accent in Europe during the colonial days?

annjellicle 0 points1 point 6 days ago[-]

but most Americans I know speak nothing like it.

I live in rural Georgia, and this accent sounds incredibly close to "Old White Man" accent around here. A few words were "off", but a whole lot of them were dead on.

Enjoy any size popcorn and any size fountain drink for $1 this Sunday (07/25) at AMC theaters.

Make sure to expand the "search area". I found the interface to be kind of annoying. I thought I had clicked to expand the area, but it "jumped" back to 10mi radius as I hit "go"...
