For those who have a Asus Eee Pad Slider, how has it held up? by Freakwillyin Android

[–]and_the_cueball -2 points-1 points ago

The slider is very heavy and not many have them. I had the TF101 with the keyboard dock and loved its convertible versatility. I'd suggest the transformer.

Sprint’s LG Cayenne (LS860) With 5-Row QWERTY Keyboard Leaked by zoxcatin Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

The keyboard fans should be happy. It's an LG, though, so I have to wonder if it will still have that darn stutter or lag when you slide from screen to screen.

Jury clears Google of all copyright infringement claims by Paradoxin Android

Patent infringement claims. Google was found to infringe one small copyright claim but the judge has yet to decide if APIs can even be under copyright in the first place.

Android on ATT but no data plan by Mr1911in Android

Is AT&T going to shared data plans? Smartphone will still require a data plan but a shared plan would be more reasonable.

Advice on extended batteries? by Revofev92in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

Depends on when you check. While plugged in, they charge fully and then discharge a little to protect the battery. If you lwave it plugged in, it will yoyo even though the light atays green and suggests full charge.

Question concerning Verizon's unlimited data policy changes. by _lobster_in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure. We'll have to see the details when this comes out. I think the trigger they are using is the new contract you sign when you accept the subsidized price, though, and that scenario doesn't involve a contract. So maybe not?

You an your family will probably come out far ahead on costs when Verizon goes to shared data plans. Have to see what they actually announce. Personally, I'm looking forward to shared data plans.

Quick Android question by TheGadgetCatin Android

[–]and_the_cueball 1 point2 points ago

It's not the sim card or having mobile data turned on. It's having your line associated with a smartphone that does it. Tell the carrier that your phone number should go to that device and they will add a data plan to your line. This assumes you are in the US with a US carrier.

Question concerning Verizon's unlimited data policy changes. by _lobster_in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 3 points4 points ago

The change, which is not actually in effect yet, occurs when you sign a new contract. If you buy a phone at full price or bring your own used phone from craigslist or whatnot, you don't sign a contract. You simply change the device associated with the plan. Take the subsidized price, though, and you have to sign a contract agreeing to the two year commitment. New contract, new terms.

Should I, or should I not keep my items while entering Dead money by Iloldalotin Fallout

You should not. You'll get what you need in there and have plenty to haul out.

Quick Android question by TheGadgetCatin Android

[–]and_the_cueball 1 point2 points ago

It's not an automatic thing but when you change your device to a smartphone, the carrier adds a data plan to your line if a data plan isn't already there. It's the part where you add the device to your plan that triggers the addition. Want to use android as a phone? Here comes the data plan, too.

HTC One X & Evo 4g LTE indefinitely delayed due to Apple patent infringement by nykiin Android

Because two wrongs make a right? Or because the bad actions of Motorola against Apple justify Apple's bad actions against HTC? Peter hit Paul so Paul slapped Mary and you say "So? Bitch had it coming."

Is 3G Dead? Where are all the 3G Phones? by notafailurein Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

I don't think the extra battery consumption on 4g is noticeable. It may be measurable but it ain't noticeable. If 4g coverage is spotty, searching for signal or trying to jump back up to 4g will have an impact but it's like bouncing between 1x and 3g.

I don't remember it being sweet-jebus-I-gots-to-tell-someone fast. I'll have to check it out again. Is this an ICS thing or are Samsung and HTC making phones better for snapshots?

Okay with Verizon cutting out unlimited for those of us that are still grandfathered into it, what should I/you do? by thesneak155in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

Verizon can always change how or when they push people to the limited plans but, from what I've ready, they are using the shift from 3g to 4g devices to do it this summer. Your Thunderbolt is a 4g device. When you upgrade phones, you are just changing devices but keeping the same plan. No change to features. I bet they'll circle back for you if you try to add/change any of your options. Want more/less text messages or minutes? Please to choose from a limited data plan. You'll still be okay. Unless you are streaming movies or media every day while on the mobile network, it's really hard to hit the 4GB limit. It's difficult to hit the 2GB limit without streaming media over 3g or 4g.

I'm about to buy my first Android phone! by herpderp07in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

That Hauwei has low screen resolution and color count but, worse, only 256MB ram. You will not be happy and any game more complicated than solitaire will likely suck. Don't do that to yourself.

I'm about to buy my first Android phone! by herpderp07in Android

[–]and_the_cueball 0 points1 point ago

For lower-end phones, just don't expect updates and features. Try the phones first and watch for stutter or lag when switching screens. You want one with as close to no lag as possible.

Look for at least a 1Ghz processor and more than 512MB memory.

If possible, do a search for ROMs available for the phone you are interested in. If there is developer support for that phone, you will be much happier in a year or so when the manufacturer has moved on.

Huawei makes decent phones but they don't update them. Can you get the HTC One V or.something similar? Not sure of the price point on those.

[–]and_the_cueball 1 point2 points ago

From what you describe, you won't even hit 1GB, much less two. If you are on 3g, maybe going for the 4GB option wouldn't be such a bad idea to lock it in. Sounds like they are forcing people to change from unlimited when they shift to 4g devices. If you are already on a 4g device, I don't think you will be affected.
