I left my computer at home and the computer on my desk won't let me login -_- by Nachtwolfein talesfromtechsupport

Gotta wonder what her train of thought was there... A question I would want to ask would be, "If that thing on your desk was a computer already then why would you have to bring your laptop and connect to it?"

This same error keeps occurring VERY frequently, sometimes once every few minutes. What does it mean?? by peejster21in techsupport

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

I can't see that being an issue, but any more information about how your internal network is setup would be appreciated.

I have a sinking suspicion that there is innocuous device that is running a NAT, something that you wouldn't expect. That being said I would double check all of your settings on your Minecraft server just to be safe.

The Double NAT config is the first thing that get's my attention, are you doing this on purpose for some reason? If you are not you will need to fix this, this issue is from multiple devices on your network doing network address translations which means converting an external IP to an internal IP.

Do you have multiple router's or active switches on your network?

I'm guessing the reason your base station is still staying green is because it is the outer of the two NAT devices so it see's the active Internet connection.

Both good points, I'm not trying to say you were in the wrong more that I definitely should start doing this myself once I graduate here in a couple weeks.

I work for a larger state university, and if I got $150 for each virus I've removed since I started I would be able to pay off my student loans right now

Congrats on your racket, you win the game

Oh... sick burn haha

Btw the whole I don't have a password on my email thing happens way more often than anyone would imagine. People put their passwords in once and then they never have to again and over time this warps their sense of this account needs a password.

Anyone familiar with HP and their EFI? Boot from CD/DVD message shows up twice. by bcl0328in techsupport

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

This is a weird occurance because UEFI should replace the BIOS not be running with it. But I think your keen instincts were right in thinking the the first screen is UEFI and the second is BIOS, since your hard drive is MBR and not GPT is why you get the error.

As far as I know there is no way to completely disable UEFI unless there is a setting in your BIOS that supports it as it is loaded by the motherboard.

Spilled beverages on laptop keyboards, what happens exactly? by EpiqueSaucein techsupport

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

In a laptop the keyboard sits on top of the motherboard which is where all the other components connect to. If your brother spilled enough liquid to get on this that could be the cause of your troubles, I'm not sure how it still worked for part of the day but the laptop turning off and display not working is classic liquid spillage. Usually unless the water is completely distilled it will conduct electricity and probably short something out.

You really don't go into depth about what your brother was "messing with" but hopefully he didn't do anything to the monitor. I would advise taking it somewhere to at least have it looked at (not Best Buy) but I really can't give you a price range without knowing what is wrong first.

how can i stop my 2.0 GHz cpu from always running at 598 MHz? by golfwang999in techsupport

How did you get that number of 598 MHz? CPU-z or some other kind of benchmark tool?

How to change audio bit rate to 1411kps? by joejoe347in techsupport

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

Are you sure that's the bitrate and not the size of the file (Kb instead of kbps)? Because even FLAC audio usually won't get above 1000 kbps and the only real step up from that is .wav ... I would be very surprised if tf2 was storing audio files in that high-res, but since I don't have that game I can't check it out... anyone else have any more insight?

User, "I think my laptop has a virus." Me, "What laptop? You were assigned a desktop." by tfarcrawin talesfromtechsupport

This happens all the time at the uni I work for, professors love to bring in their personal stuff try to slap an IT asset tag on it and hope we just fix their issue... It's really not hard to discern when I look up your service tag and it comes back to a 6 year old Dell but you brought in a two week old Macbook Pro...

Two graphics cards for faster processing? by vinnievonin techsupport

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

Zenvan is right, you can't split processing between two cards with different chipsets... They have no way to talk to each other especially since one is nVidia and the other is Radeon. At this point it would be better to just buy a budget video card which will give you the frame rates you are looking for.

PC gets stuck on boot screen by krymourn5in techsupport

[–]ameyer505 -1 points0 points ago

You could try doing a Startup Repair from a Windows install disc, that will fix any errors that occur with the boot sequence

Otherwise if its getting stuck before it even loads the OS it might be time for a reformat/reinstall.

As far as what it could be, it seems there is a runaway process in your boot sequence somewhere and that is what is taking up all the time.

I completely agree, at the college I go to they still make every freshman student take a library class... When is the last time one of these kids have actually used the library? But they use computers everyday... just a thought

Uhh... I digress

Yeah that's what happened, the attacker apparently got ahold of a user account then spoofed our IT dept's email to send which was verified on our exchange server... it was actually quite well done but now our servers are blacklisted so that's what I'm dealing with today

You know it's funny, our IT student staff offered to put a seminar/workshop like this on for incoming students the week before school started.... We were turned down because it would've taken away from other ice breaking exercises our school puts on for all the freshman, so instead we just allow them to get viruses and click on whatever and then deal with it later
