American Airlines Rejects Female Passenger Because Political Pro-Choice T-Shirt is "Inappropriate" by ngamauin politics

[–]ajl_mo 0 points1 point ago

You know something.... I say "fuck" all the time. But I don't say it in public in front of little kids and grandmas. I don't said it in front of the church going woman who works the front desk. I don't say it in front of the couple of real church going people living across the street.

I'm as pro-choice as pro-choice can get. But this shirt was just an attempt to be confrontational in a non-confrontational setting. I'd be ticked off if I had sit where I saw this shirt all flight long.

There's a place to be a confrontational prick and a place to just get along with the people around you. A crappy flight is the latter.

Penny her door. We did this constantly in the dorms, to the point where some people picked their room by how hard it was to penny the door closed (if the door was loose on it's hinges it was impossible to penny).

It makes perfect sense. I had an uncle would fought in WW2. He landed in Sicily and fought all the way into Germany. After V-E day they started training to go into the Pacific.

After seeing his unit friends get their guts blown out and die in front of him he wasn't a big fan of Germans or Japanese. I doubt his kids would have skipped merrily into Das Frankenhaus or Tokyo Sushi Bar without being reminded of some (definitely not all) the stories he told.

What was the scariest moment of your life? by ObbyDentin AskReddit

[–]ajl_mo 7 points8 points ago

My boys and I were hiking down a hill as a shortcut to a trail. They were 5 and 7 at the time. As we got close to the trail the hill got really steep though not unwalkable. I decided I'd help my younger one down to the trail. I told my older one to come down at an angle toward me once I gave him the OK. I also told him he should kind of scoot down rather than walk down. My little one and I scooted down as I called back to the big one "Are you watching how we are doing this?" "yes" was the answer.

I got to the trail and called back for him to follow.

He started to run down and immediately went out of control. I ran over to get in his way. About 50 feet below the trail was a 50 foot bluff that fell into a lake.

I barely got my arm out as he hit the trail and stopped him. If I had been a half step late I would have missed him and he surely would have gone over.

Still gives me nightmares 8 years later.

If you look like you know what you are doing and act like you're supposed to be doing it 99.999% of people will leave you alone.

I place I tended bar at had an outside beer cooler. The thing had two padlocks and was on a busy street with traffic and pedestrians always walking by. One night near close I went out to get a half barrel and locked the fricking keys in the cooler. Came back in to find out we didn't have another set.

So the next day be fore opening I got my hacksaw and sawed off one lock and the one latch. It took me at least an hour. In the middle of the morning dozens of people and hundreds of cars past by me and no one said a word.

[–]ajl_mo 2 points3 points ago

I was raised in the old part of St Charles years and years ago. (back when south 94 was two lanes). We would bop over to Northwest Plaza all the time. It was only 15-20 minutes away.

Then we moved to O'Fallon (back when K was two lanes). The first time we told the neighbor kids we were going to NW Plaza you would have thought we said we were driving across the Atlantic.

Then in high school I dated a girl from StC. She was FORBIDDEN to cross the bridges.

It's like people thought you had to change your money when you crossed the bridge.

But to be honest I knew people from the County who thought the same thing about coming into StC county.

Anyone know who is hiring, part-time? by HUFFRAIDin columbiamo

[–]ajl_mo 1 point2 points ago

Parks and Rec desperately needs lifeguards. Seriously. If you can swim 200 yards you're in. There's even a "scholarship" for the lifeguard training class.

There's also some temp construction jobs. If you're schedule isn't too nuts they can work around it.

[–]ajl_mo 0 points1 point ago

If it's like any place I ever started work at or have seen a new hire come in, it's no big deal.

You'll have plenty of time while you sit at your desk and the IT guy says "This person was starting today? Christ no one told me. Well I'll get your log-in ready after I get this driver update install on everyone else's machine. Just log in as the guy you're replacing."

Meanwhile you're boss says "Christ you're starting today?? Ummm well here's some HR stuff you have to read. Maybe have something ready after lunch." (it'll be Wednesday at the earliest).

Why the hell do we have people start on Monday? It's usually a cluster of a day. I'd start people on a Wednesday. You've got your week in a groove by that point.

Have you ever been on TV? by pooks3190in AskReddit

[–]ajl_mo 0 points1 point ago

All the frickin' time. I work in a college town with a journalism school that has it's own network TV station. Plus there's another network station in town and one in a town about 20 minutes away. Each had it's own news cast.

So we have two professional TV news outfits looking for a way to fill airtime and classrooms of kids who think they're going to be the next anchor on 60 Minutes.

Honestly in this town it's harder to not be on TV.

Found a baby bird, no nest nearby that I can see. Tell me what to do. by ZyrxilTooin AskReddit

[–]ajl_mo 0 points1 point ago

I hate to be the one to say it but this bird is not long for this world. You MAY be able to find a bird rescue group if you live in a larger metro area. A little googling will find it.

But honestly a bird that age needs constant care.

If you can't find a care group either put it back or dispatch it quickly yourself. Circle of Life my friend.
