Could the rumored Apple television have "reverse" AirPlay to iOS devices? by Homestar06in apple

[–]acemetrical 1 point2 points ago

I don't see a need for this. I have the Time Warner "watch tv on your iPad" app and have never found a use for it. If I want to watch tv, I have the tv for that. It's not like the other way around where you have the content on your iPhone and want to watch it on a bigger screen via AppleTv. All that aside, this isn't a technical issue. It's a legal one, I'm sure. Cable providers will be none too thrilled if you can beam their content out of the control of their boxes. So my vote is this is a no-go, but who knows?

It depends on what they look like. If they showed up looking like Kathy Ireland and brought with them a wish generating machine, I bet people would cheer.

What if the Spaniards, with the help of the church, destroyed any possible proof of past alien contact when the Americas were discovered ? by jonny80in aliens

If there were ever gold sheets with writing on them, the Spanish definitely got those.

With big budget flops like John Carter and the recent Battleship, what movies would you have like to seen done with a budget around $200 million. by bubba10381in movies

Absolutely. But Val Kilmer should be in it, and several million should be spent making him skinny again.

I saw the 1931 Dracula when I was six (In 1980). It scared the HELL out of me. I then saw Nightmare on Elm Street a few years later and was surprised to find it far less scary than a movie made 50 years earlier.

What movie did you see as a kid that, in retrospect, you were too young to be watching? by AnticitizenPrimein movies

I saw Alien in the theater when it came out. I was six. My mom thought it would be like Star Wars.

[–]acemetrical[S] 0 points1 point ago*

It doesn't matter if someone breastfeeds their kid late in life, that's none of my business. It's a private thing between a mother and child.

HOWEVER, this kid's life is ruined. There is no way in HELL he will EVER get away from this picture. It will follow him FOREVER. I think it should be illegal to put this out there. That kid had no choice in the matter - and now he's fucked. FOREVER. This is so much worse than the Star Wars kid. It's unconscionable.

Thoughts on piracy? What can Reddit suggest to the RIAA that's a fair and balanced solution to the problem of 'copyright theft?' by acemetricalin AskReddit

[–]acemetrical[S] 0 points1 point ago

I don't mind $1 a song. Most artists are lucky to get one song people are willing to buy. So that's all they get. That buck, and a tiny fraction of it at that. They deserve it. Mind you, $4 for a TV show is INSANE! It's already paid for. They got their advertising money. What's the cost for? TV Shows, a buck at MOST.

Everytime I think about this I see a bunch of guys saying "DVD sales are down! We're losing money!" Yet, for some reason, no one mentions that "Our VHS sales are through the floor!" Times change, media changes. I haven't put a dvd in our dvd player in about two years. AppleTV solved that. Yet they're still worried about DVD sales to the point they think Netflix is a threat and not the answer.

I guess that's where I disagree. I don't feel that paying what you owe is negative reinforcement. I feel that sharers don't realize that they owe something, because that's never been discussed. My fear is that iTunes can't be sustained if the next generation refuses to pay for media. And I'm not familiar enough with today's twenty year olds to say if they would shift away from free media for the sake of the value-added services that iTunes provides.

I'm picturing a cow next to a grocery store with a sign around its neck saying, "Free Milk," with a bunch of buckets scattered by its feet. To your point, there's an age where they start going into the grocery store to buy it because its too much of a pain to get it the free way. I think this holds true until the cow becomes an automated milk vending machine, and the buckets become as good as the jugs in the store.

Personally, I think that from Napster on, the sites are not the issue and shouldn't be considered the issue. If the RIAA doesn't have them on their side then we get where we are now with mirror sites, etc. The onus has to be on the sharer themselves. And I understand about simultaneous upload/download, but that needs to be a conscious decision on the part of the sharer, something the site (if they were friends with the RIAA) would most likely make very clear. Akin to popping up a warning that if you are distributing movie X, the current price of sharing it is Y and you will be billed.
