38 Studios lays off entire staff by jaycrewin gaming

[–]a600hzhum 0 points1 point ago

That person's opinion is uninformed. It had nothing to do with the industry. The studio simply took out too big of a loan and expected their game to sell in an unrealistic way. Btw, the studio has already gone under. You should feel worse for RI taxpayers, who have now lost their money in this down economy.

It seems they took on the $75 million dollar loan offered by Rhode Island.

[–]a600hzhum 0 points1 point ago

Thats why you don't borrow $75 million dollars. There are very few businesses in the world that can take that loan without significant risk.

What's worse is that RI taxpayers are now going to have to handle the bill.

Lamar Odom eyes Knicks after woeful season in Dallas by brooklynkidshaqin nba

[–]a600hzhum 1 point2 points ago

Forget my flair and no, I'm not an Odom fan. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Mavs management had no business picking up Odom. All the pro commentators were talking about how Odom simply had no fit in the Mavs and it showed right away. The guy came from a team with a completely different coaching style, had missed training camp, and was expected to hit the ground running in the middle of the fucking season with a team who did NOT need his playing at all.

He had already shown how great he can be when he gels with his team and has no personal problems, since he won sixth man of the year just last year. This was just an example of a team taking advantage of Odom's bitterness towards LA by convincing him to come over for loose change. It just ended up biting them in the ass.

I get what you're saying but its still justified to me. When I was a kid, I had some baby teeth knocked out by a thrown bottle. I see a thrown bottle as extremely dangerous and I feel physical action is justified, especially if he was in artest's face when he threw it. To me, this situation represented one where he had to defend himself, rather than deciding who is justified in handing out some sort of punishment. The fan had simply escalated the situation way too far way too quickly and the simple fact that the fan was able to do this without being challenged by security should say something about how dangerous this was for artest

[–]a600hzhum 0 points1 point ago

It's hard to argue the biggest effect since I agree that Artest's running into the crowd provoked the crowd, but it was also the fan who started shit by thinking he could throw a drink and bottle at a player and not get punished for it. It should say a lot that Artest was not looking to fight but erupted after that fan's actions. That implies that Artest would not have done shit if the fan had not overreacted the way he did. If anything, I feel Detroit fans should have called out the drunk fan for throwing his drink since that kind of shit shouldn't fly. The argument was between Wallace and Artest, and the fan involved himself and the crowd.

Even before that, Wallace started the whole situation by shoving Artest hard for a foul that wasn't even hard. It was a regular foul by today's standards and it was a weak foul by the standards back then.

Maybe it'd be best to point out that the fan, the crowd, and Wallace were all aggressors in this situation, compared to artest who was only reacting to the situation around him.

I know it might seem like I'm biased but I'm trying to be objective. How is it that artest is always blamed for the brawl? I have seen the video. Arrest fouled Wallace, and after a retaliation push from Wallace, attest kept his cool and didn't fight. He would later lay down on a table and it wasn't until then that a fan threw a beer at him. The crazy thing is that, in the video, an announcer who was next to artest at that moment says that the fan threw a drink and bottle at point blank range.

I mean, how can people be anything but sympathetic towards artest for that? I don't know if I consider it an overreaction to go after some asshole who did that. Artest may have been a paid athlete but he's still a human being capable of being antagonized like anybody else and to hold them to a higher standard when physical altercation is involved is hypocritical in my opinion

Pau Gasol wonders if he's played his last game for Lakers; trade could await by louiebaurin nba

[–]a600hzhum 3 points4 points ago

This upsets me because everyone who watched the Lakers this season knows that roughly 90% of the Lakers troubles had to do with Brown. I know the team is aging but the Lakers would not have struggled so much if they simply had a competent coach. Still managing to reach the conference semi finals (despite how deep the west is this year) with such a shitty coach should say something about how capable this team is as is.

Forgive the frankensigns, but has anyone ever been cut off by someone who suddenly realized they weren't staying on the northbound 215 through Riverside? Something this simple could fix that. by spackopotamusin InlandEmpire

[–]a600hzhum 1 point2 points ago

That's a pretty broad generalization. This whole area's signs are bunched up considering freeway speeds. There also happens to be a lot of cars coming from the University and Blaine exits, which means a lot of people miss the lane signs. Not only that but then there is a lot of traffic in this area and it is hard to easily switch over without being a total asshole, especially if you're coming in from the Blaine exit.

I see it as an obvious flop. His elbow and shoulder would have carried the momentum of the hit if it had been a normal elbow. But in order to sell the hit and make it look like only a mid-air collision, he directed the elbow as he threw himself in Stephenson's direction.

In my opinion, it just has to do with rooting for a collective set of players who have chosen to "represent" you. As you said, being able to see them only strengthens this relationship. When they leave, they have made the decision to not represent you anymore which is why I feel some people get upset.

13:06:54.022 BN - FACEBOOK SHARES DROP BELOW $38/SHR IPO PRICE :FB US by plopalot2in investing

[–]a600hzhum 0 points1 point ago

It is easier said than done. It has already been said that FB will have to more aggressively place ads on pages since there isn't any realistic way of increasing revenue for the site without changing their core business model since they have already monetized their business as much as is possible. In fact, there is a lot of suspicion that much of the ad revenue they create already is inflated since there are companies that sell fake ad revenue in the form of likes.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, FB has nowhere to go but down. FB actually has closer to 162 million unique users, which is way above what Google had at IPO. That should be worrisome because FB will NEVER be bigger than Google (or even as big as Google), meaning that FB's current userbase numbers risk plateauing very soon.

I'm in the category that believes Facebook being considered a multi-billion dollar corporation is pure luck. Social networks (in fact, ANYTHING social) is a crapshoot, particularly because they only thrive on trendy user popularity (see myspace). Facebook didn't do anything particularly unique with their social network, since it largely mirrored myspace's capabilities. Well, it was unique only because it was college users only for a while.

13:06:54.022 BN - FACEBOOK SHARES DROP BELOW $38/SHR IPO PRICE :FB US by plopalot2in investing

[–]a600hzhum 3 points4 points ago

FB makes its money selling user data and, considering it is a social network, is heavily dependent on whether it is still trendy or not to still use. If you want to see an example of the latter, look up myspace sometime. Basically, FB has nowhere to go but down since it has already hit its popularity high or is at least very close to. In fact, can ANY social network have any reasonable longevity with such a fickle user base? It doesn't seem to have any longevity, which is very strongly encouraged for a company that has just been listed.

Amazon on the other hand is a competently run business that is putting locals out of business. Its on track to being another Walmart based on Amazon's growth, with the only negative to its customers being that they have to wait for an item to arrive in the mail.
