IBM Faces The Perils Of "Bring Your Own Device": "After letting its employees use their own phones and tablets for work, the company confronted a flood of insecure apps from the open Web" by trot-trotin business

[–]ZebZ 1 point2 points ago

Where I work, it's common to have the company reimburse you for the data portion of your personal phone bill.

The purchase and care of the device itself is up to the employee, with the understanding that the phone is still yours to do whatever you want with as long as you abide by our ActiveSync security profile (forced PIN, remote wipe). It's also made clear that if you take measures to circumvent the security profile or get cause using apps like Dropbox to transfer proprietary information you will be immediately fired.

Then again, where I work only gives mobile access to people who need it, not every Tom, Dick, and Harry who wants the novelty of getting work email on their phone. It's basically C-Level, Director Level, and certain IT staff.

Most of the time, the executive ranks are the ones wanting to use their own iPhones or iPads, rather than being forced to carry around a company laptop or a company BlackBerry themselves.

Top-level people want the convenience and additional productivity of iOS or Android smartphones and tablets. There are a crapload of work-related things that you can do with a a device that has nothing to do with email.

We handed out iPads, and found that they are commonly used for things like mindmapping and for apps like Microsoft's iOS port of OneNote.

The successful SEO personality, where do you think most of us fit in the Myers-Briggs scale? by panamaspacein SEO

[–]ZebZ 0 points1 point ago

Of course, no test should be used in isolation as the sole indicator of somebody's aptitude or career success. That's just common sense.

But in many cases, the Meyers-Briggs tests fit people to a T, which is why its such a popular metric. It's an easy way to "ballpark" many things at a higher aggregate level.

I'm a recent but huge fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series (which the Game Of Thrones tv show was based), so much that I read all 5 books in under 2 months. /r/asoiaf is a godsend for me to discuss the intricacies of each subplot and the various prophecies and hints and character analysis and such.

Btw, /r/gameofthrones is a cesspool of image memes and karma whoring.

The Meyers-Briggs scale is a hugely respected personality test, and has been for decades, and is used all over the world.

I'm as solid an INTP as can be.

SEO is great for me now, but I worry about my ability to stay excited about it long-term. I tend to get bored of things once I figure out the "best" way to do something.

I program as a day job, which keeps me challenged and engaged. But when it comes to administering things I've built or things I've inherited, I just avoid it. I'm really worried that once the "challenge" isn't as novel a concept anymore with SEO and I start to consider it as "work", I'll let sites go to waste.

I also tend to majorly obsess. For instance, my current niche site is my latest obsession. I'll spend every non-work (and honestly, a few at-work) hours on it, reading about the latest SEO techniques and analyses. But I know unless I see results right away I'll move on to the next shiny thing in a few weeks. I have so many half-completed projects that've gotten tossed by the wayside once I got my thrill out of planning how they should be done and became disinterested with the actual doing it.

Yahoo releases a new web browser... Wat? by free_beerin SEO

Well, the page already has nearly 5000 Facebook Likes and 2500 tweets. So... somebody is interested.

Either that or they are all mocking it, which is entirely possible.

What sort of Amazon affiliate conversion rate is normal? by trevbillionin SEO

[–]ZebZ 0 points1 point ago

Why should I choose to be paid by direct deposit instead of by check?

There are several advantages to choosing to be paid by direct deposit instead of by check:

  • The minimum payment threshold for direct deposit is only $10, compared to $100 for checks.

  • We deduct a $15 processing fee from all monthly checks sent to Associates, but there is no charge for payment by direct deposit or gift certificates.

  • Direct deposit payments are completely secure and reach your bank account three to seven days faster than paper checks.

If your billing address is outside the United States, and direct deposit is, therefore, unavailable to you, we will waive the $15 fee.

Cron is a Linux thing, not a Windows thing.

What kind of access do you have to your web host? Admin access to the OS? IIS? Some sort of control panel?

Is this a custom-built site, or are you using a packaged framework like Umbraco?

$10 is the minimum amount that Amazon will pay out at any given time. Maybe he's referring to that because he wants a daily deposit?

It's a great feeling to have the one day where you hit the front page, or you rank on a term out of nowhere and, BOOM, quadruple visitors to your site over night.

Or better yet, when you check AdSense, affiliates, or whatever other Goals/Conversions you have setup and they've bounced up.

I had one of these yesterday, actually. Feels good.

Sandor Clegane is not only alive and well, will be responsible for Cersei's death by fulfilling the "valonquar" prophecy.

The prophecy was told to her by Maggie The Frog, saying that she will die at the hands of the valonquar, which means "the little brother." Note, "the" not "your."

The Hound, as we left off, did not succumb to his wounds when he was abandoned by Arya. He was saved by the Elder Brother and now is living on the Quiet Isle as the gravedigger. The description of the gravedigger matches what we know about him - he is described as being bigger than Brienne with a limp indicating a recent hip injury, dressed in novice clothing with his face covered. His horse Stranger was there, and he was kind to a wild dog. There are other context clues, such as "The Hound is dead" but "Sandor is at rest" indicating the separation of his two personas.

So... he's alive. And he's joined the Faith.

Meanwhile in King's Landing, Ser Robert Strong has joined the King's Guard and will be assumed to be the champion representing her at her trial. So who is? Zombie Gregore Clegane, who has been kept alive or reanimated by Qyburn.

It's not unreasonable to make the connection that The Warrior's Sons could choose Sandor as their champion. They would battle, and Sandor, the valonquar, will win. Not only does this finally bring closure to his personal storyline and let him finally have peace, the outcome of such a fight will directly lead to the execution one of the series' major characters, Cersei.

What a crock of shit article.

Even if Facebook isn't overvalued and overhyped, there's no reason to think that they will cease to innovate, or if their ad model starts to slide that they can't come up with a new one.

These doom and gloom articles all act like Zuckerberg is gonna sit there and accept quarter after quarter of losses and a mass user exoduses and just say "oh, well."

How many times have we heard the same predictions for Google, and YouTube, and Twitter? Yeah, we heard them about MySpace, but guess what... everybody knew MySpace sucked and were only there because it was the only game in town.

Speculation on where the show will leave the characters at the end of Season 2 (book spoilers ACOK/ASOS) by SidestepToYourLeftin gameofthrones

[–]ZebZ 1 point2 points ago

The Battle of Blackwater is the 9th episode, with still one episode after that. They won't leave Tyrion's fate in the air for a whole episode, but I wouldn't be surprised left as a cliffhanger next week.

Ser Dontas' story with Sansa doesn't really take off until ASOS anyway. There's plenty of time left for that.

Robb's story will go nowhere fast. I'm guessing they'll reveal Talisa's intentions as a twist.

I'm betting that the last shot of the season will be 3 horns signifying the wights attacking the Fist.

We might get a distant shot of Mance's army, but I wouldn't bank on it.

House of the Undying likely won't feature Rhaegar at all, since the show didn't show any flashbacks from AGOT regarding Lyanna/Rhaegar/Tower Of Joy stuff.

No idea what they'll do with Davos. Wouldn't be surprised if they skip him being stranded.

Arya, Hot Pie, and Gendry will end the season with the Brotherhood most likely. They've been lampshading them all season. There has to be another scene or two with Jaqen - the last episode is named "Valar Morghulis" and she still needs to obtain a gift from him.

There was no announcement of a casting for Ramsay Snow this season, so we probably won't see the burning of Winterfell. Though they might just do it without showing Ramsay's face? Them coming up out the crypts and seeing only rubble seems like a good place to end their storyline this season. I just hope they do more wolf-visions.

Nope, that wasn't important.

Each of those scenes serves a very distinct purpose that moves the plot forward.

There are no wasted scenes in this series.
