Mako's Reaction to Korra's Identity vs Asami's Identity by DJGravityThingin TheLastAirbender

[–]YagyuToomin 2 points3 points ago

Isn't being the avatar more interesting than being the daughter of a famous industrialist?

What you also have to consider is that that's your perspective. We have to put ourselves in Mako's shoes. To us, who grew up in industrialized cultures, the whole idea of bending and the avatar is much more fascinating because it's so new and different. Even though Mako grew up in Republic City, bending has been a part of his life. Meeting the avatar, despite the fact that she's a huge deal, isn't as significant to him as meeting someone from a whole different world, the world of technology and development. This is alluding to a much more significant idea.

There's a large building theme of "old" versus "new" in this series. Benders and bending are the old ways, while industry and technology are the new ways. It's an exciting time in the Avatar world, and I believe that's one of the reasons that Amon's movement is able to garner such support. In as recently as Aang's time, it might not have, because bending was the only way. Now, there is an alternative, and people are excited about it.

So yeah, the difference in Mako's reaction is important, but probably only when it comes to setting a tone in the series, as opposed to hinting at some secret to his character.

Dear Penguins Fans.... by flyersphenomin penguins

Also a Flyers fan here. This was an insane series, and is the sort of thing that makes you wish it was for the conference or even the cup with how intense it got. There was absolutely no telling who was gonna take the series at any point until the end. Heart and soul from everyone on both sides, and I really gotta give you guys credit for backing your goalie when he was struggling. I wish most Flyers fans could say the same. Here's to next year!

Honestly, I'd like to keep it simple and classy. We have to bear in mind that the picture probably won't be that big when it gets posted. The Hartnell Hulkmania thing was hilarious and fits well. If not, then the picture posted somewhere above me of Coutourier with that giant grin on his face.

My friend wrote me in as a character for his comic and gave me this awesome jacket. What style is this, and where can I get one like it? by YagyuToominin malefashionadvice

Thanks for the suggestion. I always figured that trench only came in one length style. This is a great starting point.

An upvote for you, sir! The author of the comic is a former physics student of mine, and I definitely take some inspiration from the lighter sides of the 10th and 11th for my personality as a teacher.

I was at that game, and I'll never forget it. Hartnell got a standing ovation from the crowd while being escorted to the box, and another standing ovation when he got out 5 minutes later. It was beautiful.

Cheapest times to fly to Japan? by tckearnsin japan

[–]YagyuToomin 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't call it nice, but it wasn't uncomfortable either. The whole thing was completely painless. We showed up, checked in, got on board, arrived at our layover, changed planes, flew to Narita, and got out. This was 2008.

Did the booking myself, no company. There was a website for finding cheap flights a few years ago that has dropped off the face of the web since then, but we flew Delta both ways. There was only one layover each way. Tickets were purchased around late March, early April.

FWIW, I got $700 round-trip between Philly and Narita, late May to early June.

Ah, so you can root without unlocking the bootloader? Most guides I've come across have started with unlocking, so I figured it was necessary. That'd be a huge help if that were the case.

So that won't re-lock the bootloader, and the single act of rooting the phone won't erase anything then. Is that correct?

Why couldn't the Shirshu find Aang when he was on the Lion-Turtle? by zenthor109in TheLastAirbender

[–]YagyuToomin 11 points12 points ago

You're welcome to call it magic if you'd like. It's probably easier. If you'd like to be bored, read on:

Like many things in the Avatar universe, this is potentially a reference to Chinese lore, which (along with other notable cultures) considered all of existence (the universe) to be carried on the back of a giant turtle (or tortoise, I suppose). If this is a reference to that (as many people have speculated), then you can assume that Aang was in a different plane of existence (similar to the Spirit World).

This may not be true at all, but I've yet to see any word from the writers on the subject, so it's as good a theory as any.
