I find it interesting how the theories behind children learning is routed in the idea of generalization.

As a child begins to understand the world they are taught what a 'door' is, but what they really learn is what a door looks like. For an easier example let's take a child that discovers what 'chairs' are, or more specifically, what they look like. If I was to present a toilet to a child who had never come in contact with a toilet before in their life, what would they assume it to be? A chair.

That argument seems to follow from a lot of specificity in things like wine, soda, etc. If a child likes coke, but only knows it as 'soda,' the child will request soda. Now say if you gave the child a root beer and they didn't like it, they would still request for the other soda. I know at least this is true from my childhood, and I'm sure from many other people's
