To be fair it never was that intuitive to do that. It took me a while to figure it out. The latest version does seem to make it easier.

This is Sunday: What were your running accomplishments this week? by Frontrunner453in running

[–]WenniesAffairs 0 points1 point ago

I ran London on Sunday. It was my first marathon and I was pleased to come in at 3:57:01. Was expecting better but had to hobble the last 6 miles in 1hr 13 minutes after a sharp pain shot through my left knee. Hey-ho, its the nature of the beast as they say. Great experience though and I plan to do more!

I would imagine preprogramming implied selecting a pre-recorded route before you start your workout.

London marathon advice by miarosein running

[–]WenniesAffairs 1 point2 points ago

Just try to run comfortably. It shouldn't feel hard in the most part. Keep it steady and don't burn away at the beginning. Honestly, your best bet is to make it a long jog and the last 6.2 will most likely start getting uncomfortable. Hitting the wall comes from poor training and poor fuelling so mitigate by taking it easy. Best of luck, I'll be there too!

Hey runnit, so I qualified for the 2013 Boston Marathon...by 27 seconds. Be honest, what are my odds of actually getting to compete? by poneilin running

[–]WenniesAffairs 1 point2 points ago

I know that only an average of 72% of registered entrants get to the start line of the London Marathon. I'm sure it's a similar situation in Boston despite the qualification requirement. I was there on Monday supporting a friend and heard the 400 figure just chatting to other runners in our hotel. After all that training and expense of getting there I don't think people wanted to hang around and wait another year. Also the 2 days leading up to the race were warm but not hot so there was some hope that it would stay that way. It didn't though and it was insanely hot for running but a great day had by most.

Running in Boston next week, need advice by Beta1308in running

[–]WenniesAffairs 1 point2 points ago

My wife and I stayed in Boston last week and we ran most days. Our route went around the common/park over to the salt and pepper shaker bridge downriver to the Harvard bridge/Fenway park and back up Commonwealth. It was all petty safe and lots of other runners around doing similar routes. Yes, it was Marathon weekend but Boston is a runner's city anyway right? Oh and check out username dougez on mapmyrun.com as he's mapped out a few routes around Boston.

Yes, I'm going to be there. First time Marathoner too. I'm aiming for circa 3:30. Not picked my bib up yet from the expo but my number is 44778. [Edit] Oh, and I'm running for the Outward Bound Trust.

Doing my first 5km run tomorrow! Looking for tips and advice :) by spicymelonin running

[–]WenniesAffairs 0 points1 point ago

This is your first one so take it easy and enjoy. Getting yourself around in one piece and taking in the experience is your objective tomorrow. If you don't mind me asking, which park run are you doing? There are a couple local to me - although I've never been, friends have found them to be a lot of fun.

If you refuel properly then you'll avoid "hitting the wall". Good luck!

Morning Runners: do you eat before or after? by BostAnonin running

[–]WenniesAffairs 0 points1 point ago

When I go for a long run (10 miles or more) I have a slice or two of toast with a bit of jam (or jelly depending on where you come from) just over an hour before I plan to leave.

I have a small glass of water (say around 6 fl. oz) about 20 minutes before heading out of the door.

Out on the road I'll have a Hi5 gel at around 7 miles and if I'm doing >14 miles I will have a couple more maybe. I also carry 500ml of water on me.

As soon I get back I have a whey protein shake for recovery and an isotonic drink. A few minutes after that I'll chomp down a banana.

Hope that helps.

I have to say Jacob, I love your podcasts and I've passed the love on to a few friends who have also learned your imparted knowledge. Especially enjoyed your tips and insight on bread baking and the way you spelled out the principles of creating perfect canapés. Nice to know you're also a redditor. Much respect to you!

Wasn't impressed by The Gilbert Scott. Found the food a little bland and not overly interesting. A bit like John Major. I guess thats what you get from olde Englishe Cuisine although Heston has the right idea at Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental.
