Reddit, what is the dumbest thing a teacher has told you in school? (any grade level) by futurelogicin AskReddit

It actually depends more on air resistance. All bodies accelerate at the same rate when under the influence of gravity, but the drag forces vary depending on cross-sectional area and aerodynamics. Density doesn't have anything to do with it.

Wasn't there just a post today about how the US did just this? I think this is more reality than conspiracy, unfortunately.

MyKillK was making an analogy. If I were to say that Sony's level of security is the same as my level of interest in how you live your life, I wouldn't be saying anything about Sony taking interest in your personal affairs. The two examples are presented for comparison.

Tolerance and addiction are two very different things. One can build up a tolerance to a drug without becoming addicted. Your argument that frequent use brought upon by addiction causes an increase in tolerance seems plausible, if not inescapable.

That's how it should work. Just let the people who haven't seen it yet upvote it, but don't downvote just because it's a repost. This way if a large number of people agree that it's a repost it won't stand a chance at making front page. The reality is though that much of what you thought was "new" and "original" the first time you saw it was possibly (and probably) a repost.

The problem is that lasers require more power to transmit data in the visible spectrum because they have a higher frequency (corresponding to shorter wavelength). Radio waves are still electromagnetic radiation (like visible light) but have much lower frequencies (due to longer wavelengths) and require much less power to transmit. Also it's very difficult to get a laser to retain the same dimensions at large distances as the beam divergence (for handheld lasers at least) is generally such that the beam will be over a meter in diameter once you get over a couple hundred meters. Even if it were to stay concentrated until it reached its destination, it would still need to be incredibly precisely pointed to hit that specific spot. Radio waves are easier to send off in all directions, or more commonly in the general direction and still have the information reach where it is going.

I don't have anything clever, but the story of the events the past month of my life might be worth something.

I'm a senior in high school, and started smoking right around the split between /r/marijuana and /r/trees. I had another account to post on trees the majority of the time, which was pretty well received, but I don't want to risk linking that account to this one. Now that I've been caught, it doesn't really matter that the information is on this one.

So last summer I started supplying a few friends since I had ran into an old friend who sold and was tired of being scammed by the shitty dealers that I kept being referred to and didn't want it to happen to any of my friends. So over the past year we ran into better quality product, and I stabilized the amount I was getting such that I gave it to my friends for what I got it for excluding what I personally smoked on, hardly ever making a substantial profit. But I was okay with that because It allowed me to keep my friends and I well supplied and I could smoke out whoever I wanted (some friends took advantage of this daily). Well, in spite of whatever good karma that may have generated, none was apparent in what followed. One of the people that I would smoke out for free tried to break into my house to steal my cannabis while my mom was home. She ran him off and called the police. He was quickly apprehended and immediately turned me in for smoking and selling to divert attention away from himself. Being someone that I would smoke with from time to time, he knew where I kept it all and told them that too. I went home from school with my mom and a police officer and was forced to unlock the computer and hand over an ounce of white widow, a quarter of lemon skunk, 2 bowls (one I got in Europe), a bubbler, pineapple grinder, papers, scale, bags, and lots of other small items.

I ended up facing charges of sale to a minor (felony), sale within 1000 yards of school (felony), endangering youth (felony), possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor), and trafficking of a controlled substance (misdemeanor). Lucky being a good student in a suburban town, the charges were lowered to the three misdemeanors only, which makes the situation a lot better, although still awful. I ended up getting expelled from school, even though none of this happened on school grounds or otherwise relating to them. My mom turned over the contents of my phone to the police, who easily discovered the name of my friend who was supplying me as well as 10 or so of my friends that would buy from me. The school was also informed of all their names as well as their parents, but no legal action has been taken against them.

It's incredibly difficult to know that I live in a society where owning and distributing a plant is considered to be more of an offense than somebody who breaks into houses. Did I mention that he had nothing happen to him legally and was only suspended for skipping class to break into my house? It's also difficult to watch my mom (single parent) pay thousands of dollars in legal fees and tuition to a school that I no longer go to and to the new one that I have to finish out the remaining month of school at. She said it was the worst thing she's ever been through, and that's coming from someone who was divorced with 4 kids.

/r/trees is practically the only thing that's been keeping me sane lately. This poster looks awesome!

Would have been a CovCath grad this year, but got expelled last month for possessing the flowers of a plant (at home, not at school). There are a lot of redditors among this year's graduating colonels, at least seven that I can think of at the moment.
