Can we all just brag for a moment? by rastabeanin AskReddit

I graduate from an Ivy League university in 3 weeks with NO debt, and will be starting at my dream job (with a 6-figure salary!) in August. Feels good, man.

This would fall into the same category, and I don't think they had any problems printing and selling it.

Are you saying that he blatantly stole some of them or that they're not safe, despite being derived works?

What song has been so beautiful it has moved you to tears? I have 2. by derpahooin AskReddit

"You've Got a Friend In Me" -- Randy Newman. Most people will recognize it from Toy Story. Always makes me teary.

I was thinking about writing the same thing about a week ago, I'm glad someone else is doing it. :P

Guys, what is that shaky sensation we get when urinating? And do you girls get it? by xjoeeeeein AskReddit

I have this ALL the time (when peeing). And they're not little shakes either - it takes effort to keep everything inside the bowl.

Have a devblog? Please tell me about it! by DavianBlackin gamedev

[–]Vorporeal 0 points1 point ago

I'm taking a class on game engine design this semester, and we have a 5-week long group final project. (The first three weeks were building Minecraft, the middle four are for a simple platformer, all from scratch.) I think it would be fun for us to do a dev blog, I'll discuss it with my fellow developers and post a link to it if we do. :)

My friend has never heard any ska music in his life. So I saved his poor soul and made him a playlist. How'd I do? by Johnlordlyin Ska

I'm surprised you have two tracks from Somewhere in the Between but nothing from Everything Goes Numb, I always thought the latter was better. (And if you want to go down that road, there's Catch 22, One Cool Guy, The Royalties, BOTAR, etc.)

They perfectly recreated the interior of the Basilica de San Marco. I remembered being floored by the altarpiece when I was there, and sure enough it was in the Basilica within the game, exactly how I remembered it.

Managers of Reddit, do you have special "tests" for interviewees that you put them through without their knowing? by CherrySlurpeein AskReddit

I can attest to this. I was interviewing for a job at their headquarters and had to wait in the lobby - they had some really comfortable chairs...

I'm hesitant to talk about my game before I mostly finish it because I'm afraid someone will "steal" my idea. Am I being paranoid? by Vorporealin gamedev

Although, as evidenced by a few posts in the top pages of /r/gamedev, there are plenty of people who want to work on games but need ideas. It's not a black and white issue.

Good artists borrow, great artists steal. That aside, if I didn't mention those games in my description, they wouldn't have necessarily come to mind. I could have easily said "a game where you explore a series of asteroids floating above the surface of a planet, using bombs to destroy your enemies" - that's not immediately reminiscent of those three games. I explicitly mentioned them because my idea is based on those three, and it would help people to understand the mechanics (if they had a reference to base them on).

While the core mechanics are nothing new, I've never seen or heard of a game combining them. If combined with a good story (and a few other original (in the sense that they're not based on anything I've played) mechanics/story elements that I don't want to spoil, it could be very compelling.

I'm somewhat anal about doing things well, so I'm hoping to have an awesome implementation that I can share with you guys. I won't settle for anything less. :)

Stuck on play mechanics. Anyone with an interest in design want to take a stab at this? by AmazingThewin gamedev

You could use something ala the 6-star "threat" level in the GTA games. As you do more damage/kill more people, your threat level increases, causing stronger/more enemies to be sent to take you down.

I haven't played Galaxy 2, so I can't comment on anything from there, but I'll be approximating the actual gravitational field of the planet/surface, as opposed to the SMG approach, which seemed to be "hardcoded" gravity regions. There will also be anti-gravity, which could lead to interesting puzzles like sticking to an anti-gravity surface, then jumping and having it push you somewhere.
