I'm pissed off I keep seeing "Stand Your Ground" laws used as a scapegoat for terrible policework and a racist with a gun. by TrueLibertyorDeathin politics

That blows. I have a friend who is dumb as a box of rocks and he still managed to get an associate's degree.

Totally agree, however I still feel like our country would be a good deal safer if you had to get a jurisdoctorate to be a cop.

Yes, this information stating that Trayvon Martin attacked Mr. Zimmerman came from......the police. The same group of fine upstanding individuals who botched the whole thing in the first place. What is astonishing is how readily everyone seems to be accepting this information as fact. Why would the police not fabricate "evidence" in order to make their determination seem more plausible?

No, I wasn't, so by that logic both the gentleman you mentioned and my opinion would count for the same worth. Doesn't that invalidate your own point in attempting to invalidate mine?

Just listened again, the semantics are hard to differentiate between a G and a C, true. What would his past track record of 911 calls show in regard to the racism claim? Also, does it matter if he is a racist or if he is just a huge douche who didn't register his Neighborhood Watch, followed people around (basically becoming the creep he hoped to dissuade from his neighborhood), and then shot an unarmed teenager. Do I really need to prove he is a racist for him to be total douchebag who needs to get locked up for taking another life?

You mean Joe Oliver? The "longtime friend" who is married to Zimmerman's Mother in Law? How convenient, a random relative says he never did anything racist around him. Big deal, he wasn't there when he shot a black kid armed with Skittles, was he?

No, I'm saying that the police are the ones who need rethinking, not the law. If they don't understand the law they are meant to uphold the issue is with the police, not the law.

You tell me what the guy says in the 911 call then, because it sure sounds racist to me.

Language virtually identical to Florida’s Stand Your Ground law is featured in a template supplied to legislators in other states by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a corporate-backed organization that has managed to keep a low profile even as it exerts vast influence. by wang-bangerin politics

Stand your Ground laws aren't the problem, a racist with a gun and a bad police department are. I'm so tired of seeing Stand your ground laws being used as a scapegoat because GASP! the police didn't do their job.

Make sure you call the police department at 203-797-4644 to let them know what you think about their officers attacking people in their custody.
