If you were put in charge of trimming Earth's human population down to 3 billion or so, what would your criteria be for who stays and who goes? by Clayburnin AskReddit

[–]TrentonRommy 0 points1 point ago

Firstly, I'd take volunteers. If people are suicidal, terminally ill, or just don't feel like living in a world where someone has to actually go through and eliminate billions of people, then who am I to deny them the chance to die for a (edit: potentially) beneficial cause?

Secondly, lottery. It's a tough break for those who lose, I get it, but it's the fairest way to handle such a situation.

That being said, I'm not convinced that fairness should be the primary determinant here, but that is my first instinct. It's hard for me to fight other thoughts though, such as killing the elderly, the violent felons, the mentally disabled. These are all potentially very controversial, but, then again, any solution to this sort of problem would be.

Oh, man, this is a tough one. I'll have to think more about it, but right now, I think I'm still gonna go with volunteers and then a lottery.

PLAYOFF GAME THREAD: ECF; New Jersey Devils (#6) vs New York Rangers (#1) Game #5 (8:00 ET) - Series is Tied 2-2 by seKer82in hockey

I've said it before, I'll say it again, 3-0 is just an absolutely terrible lead in the NHL.

Hey /r/sports! My senior project is about typography in sports logos – I'd be very grateful if any of you would take a survey for my research. by veryhandsomein sports

Done. Interesting survey. Could you PM me the answers to the last eight questions (isolated letters) now that I've submitted my survey?

Hey r/Hockey, have you ever accidentally shot on your own net? by WootyMcBootyin hockey

[–]TrentonRommy 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, sure have. The puck was loose in front of the net, and it was a mad scramble, and I just took a whack at the puck trying to knock it into the corner. Unfortunately my aim was a bit off and it went on net. Luckily the goalie was in the right place and I was bailed out. Still felt like an idiot though.

PLAYOFF GAME THREAD: ESF; Washington Capitals(#7) vs New York Rangers (#1) Game #7 (7:30 ET) - Series is Tied 3-3 by seKer82in hockey

Well the better team won tonight, that's for sure. Washington just couldn't complete a damn pass. Well, great series by both teams all the same.

If my memory serves me correctly, Quenneville is not fluent in French, but he does know and understand some French.

A. Kostitsyn and Radulov healthy scratches again tonight for the Preds by KakunaUsedHardenin hockey

[–]TrentonRommy 7 points8 points ago

Unless Nashville wins tonight. AK and Rads dragged the team down. I see no reason to put them back in the lineup so long as the team keeps winning without 'em.

Well, he's done for the playoffs. Adam Schefter just said so on the NFL draft. That's a big blow to the Bulls. Hate to see things like that happen.

Rich Peverley fake cleaving Braden Holtby (gif) by angrytortillain hockey

[–]TrentonRommy 0 points1 point ago

I'm an outsider, for sure. I can't speak for right on the border, because I'm actually from central Maine, but I'm in the vast minority so far as I can tell. All of the Maine I've been exposed to, which is almost all of it, is staunchly pro-Bruins. It has made for some awkward train rides to the TD Garden haha.

'Wicked' is a New England thing. And I'm from Maine. It's commonly associated with Boston, but I think that's mostly because it's the largest area in New England and has the most exposure.

So just wondering how everyone's playoff bracket's were going... by kh_1371in hockey

[–]TrentonRommy 2 points3 points ago

My bracket is alright. My biggest mistake was picking Vancouver in 5. I regretted it after game 1, naturally. And I thought Pittsburgh would take that series in 6, kinda screwed that pretty bad. I was right on the winners of the rest, but only picked the correct number of games in the Washington/Boston series.

Edit: Have NYR and NJ winning tomorrow night. Could end up 6 for 8 if that happens. Not awful.

Very possible. Either way, Holtby was wicked badass in the situation.

Firstly, good on Peverley for managing to hold back on that. I'm sure he was frustrated, and it was probably tough to not actually slash Holtby. Secondly, Holtby, what a badass. Just standing there giving Peverley the stare down and not even flinching, love it. Great game so far.

I expect that getting Alfie back will be a huge morale boost for the Sens, at least for the first period. I'm curious to see if they come bursting out of the gate because of that.

Also, this thread is hovering pretty low on the r/hockey front page right now, so if you haven't up-voted this thread, you probably should so it doesn't get lost amongst all the 'congratulations', 'here's a picture of something,' stuff.

Well, he's just trying to turn the frozen water in the corner into wine, which has a low enough freezing point that the wine-ice will start to melt, and voila, you've got yourself a stuck puck in the corner, ripe for the picking. Jesus is so smart.

I'm curious. How would a Bugatti Veyron or a hypercar of the sort fare in a NASCAR race? by Icantevenhavemynamein sports

[–]TrentonRommy 2 points3 points ago

Not very well. Bugatti Veyron's have awful gas mileage and their tires when going full-speed last only last than 20 miles if my memory serves. (Edit: You'd have to pit a Bugatti a lot more than a NASCAR car). They just aren't built for a NASCAR race. They may be faster, but they, and other super cars of the sort, are not purpose-built for that sort of use. Could you tweak certain super cars to be successful in something like NASCAR? Perhaps.
