Also do not forget that undergraduate research with a professor is a great thing and employers love it. I'm currently doing research on OpenGL on the ARM architecture and it's great. Look up what research is going on at your university and email the professor(s) in whose research you would be interested. Or, there might be a research office or some other place or counselor on campus that you could consult for finding/securing research. Either way, don't be afraid to reach out.

I'm an EE major and there is quite a lot of math involved. I can't speak for other majors though. Why don't you ask students from a variety of majors and see what they say?

EDIT: Actually, I'm a computer engineering major but I've taken circuits and electronics. Just thought that this is worth noting. Really though, the best way to find out this stuff is to speak with students who have taken these classes.
