If the left hand is reserved for 'bodily functions' in Muslim culture and shouldn't be used for eating etc, what do left-handed Muslims do? by Dropbear81in islam

[–]ThinkofitthisWay 0 points1 point ago

my interpretation is that people who used their left hands when they can use their right are associated with this great evil being called Shaytan and hence they're evil themselves, and we should avoid being friendly to these evil people.

Lol you're going too far, but if you know that you'll hurt people if you do that practice, then yes, you're quite evil. I think it's fairly obvious.

If someone is just ignorant, there is no blame on them and just need to get educated on proper etiquette.

No, a forced marriage, by islamic law, is null and void.

You can't blame this one on islam buddy because it forbids forced marriages.

I think that's wrong, Forced does not equate arranged and that's a gross mistake to make.

A proper arranged marriage is simply matchmaking done for you by your family in which you chose whom to marry on whom not to, key word: you've got a choice.

Forced marriages on the other hand is forcing you to marry someone you don't want to.

People are using arranged and forced interchangably and this is unfair to all those who had an arranged marriage and had willingly chose their partner in life and who are happy with them.

it's a way to tell us that it's something that shaytan likes to do, since he likes dirty things and likes to make people dirty.

So if some people were to use their right hand for dirty things then others who use left hand for dirty things then everyone get contaminated, regardless of their personal hygiene so it's better to have a uniform way of hygiene, shaytan likes to put confusion and needless discord between people to harm them, just for the heck of it.

As for eating with the right hand always, since it's already established that you must clean yourself with the left hand, eating with it (especially in time where there was no soap) is effectively harmful to you and by default following the way of shaytan.

Thus going against the general agreed upon rule of hygiene (which can cause harm) is in a way, reflecting shaytan's way.

Being clean and hygiene is almost like a tenant of our faith. You'll see many traditions of the prophet Muhammad that reflects that. (brushing theeth, shaving pubes and armpits, making wudu with clean water, use water that doesn't smell, etc..

This rule is to prevent people from needlesly contracting deseases trough handshakes/whatever.

If everyone is using their right hand for "clean" things while they use their left hand for "dirty" things then you can avoid many deseases that gets passed around trough touch.

Random example: when coughing and you don't have a tissue, use your left hand to cover your mouth since you may shake someone's hand (right hand)

idk, if you use your left hand for something dirty then you intentionaly use it to handle a sandwich and give it to someone else! Germs!

it doesn't make you evil, unless you're doing it purposely to somehow harm others.

It is incredible that people such as "ThinkoftthisWay" demand that no one suggest otherwise, because they do know any better !? Does this person posses all the knowledge of this world to even claim such a lie?

That is because i'm not talking about those who can use their right hand but don't

I'm talking about those who can't (or have difficulty) use their right hand, full stop.

You should not slander me like that saying that i am lying, ask any scholar and he will tell you the same thing i told you.

Yes, using the method of the prophet is a highly recommended sunnah, but it's not something that will put you in hell for not doing because you coulden't.

I am a left-handed person, but when it comes to do what is obligatory then we have no excuse, except in disease. I, and my older sister btw, have both learned to eat right-handed, altho it was hard in the start.

That's a good way of doing it, i never claimed otherwise.

please don't misunderstand that i'm saying it's not a better way, i myself follow the method of the prophet (pbuh). But for those who can't (or is difficult) use their right hand for some reason there is no blame on them.

One would be to blame if the person can use his right hand and is purposely using his left just because he feels like it.

You're not acting like shaytan if you can't use your right hand for some reason.

You would be acting like shaytan if you can use your right hand but instead use your left.

Not an issue. Any one who suggests otherwise does not know any better. Such a person shows a degree of ignorance of God, His compassion and fairness. What we have to remember is that God knows every aspect of a person's abilities, motives and intentions. A left handed person does not choose to make his right hand the weaker hand. This is something that he is created with and cannot change just like (he cannot change) the color of his skin, eyes or his hair.

Using one's right hand for eating and most other purposes is highly recommended, or a sunnah. (especially when people used to have worse personal hygiene, this was an advice from the prophet Muhammad (pbuh), if everyone is doing their toilet with the left hand and do the "clean" work with the right, it works out nicely hygiene-wise)

Though a left hander has to make the effort if possible and use his right hand for eating and left hand for handling dirty things.

Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) related that, “The Messenger of Allah loved using the right hand in wearing his shoes, combing his hair, purification (see wudu), and in all his matters.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

She also related that, The Messenger of Allah’s hand (blessings and peace be upon him) was for his purification and eating, and his left for the toilet and anything lowly." [Abu Dawud]

Edit for accuracy.

A great example is the recently made new law in Egypt: Men can now legally have sex with the corpses of their wife for up to six hours after her death.

That's actually a lie and a hoax.

It sounds very stressful... In my family, both parents always worked so it was more even I think. But still.. :[]

Yeah but i trust in Allah (swt) so it's alright :)

My parents also both work (same job/studied together) but my father does extra things which takes a lot of dedication and puts stress on him. My mom also took many of the responsabilities pertaining to being a housewife while working but it works out in the end. Alhamdoulilah. :)

"Is everything okay?" "I'M FINE!" he says with a brooding attitude

Hehe, well it takes courage to admit having emotional problems as a man.

As far as any subreddit specifically for one gender, I try to stay away from them. Whether it's for women or men, I feel like sometimes it becomes less about human rights and more about bragging rights. It feels very much like "We have it worse!" ... "No we do!" ... "Well look at how we're treated!" ...and on and on and on..

I guess you've got a point.

And heeeey now... I'm a really good jar opener. Sometimes dad even needs my assistance. So... :P

Hey it doesn't count! :D

Well, as men we don't face a real problem of sexual harassment like women do (though it does exist)

We have an increased responsability and stress from expectations of society (compared to women), knowing that it's your duty to serve and protect your family and provide for them a good life can be a little challenging sometimes! But it's alright i guess, it's a burden i'm willing to take on.

We also aren't realy allowed to show emotional weakness because its perceived as a sign of failing to be a man and living up to exceptations of society, that's why many men tend to close up on themselves and prefer to be alone when they get into problems or have issues and rarely talk about it to others.

But mostly, it's not that different to what women face as problems, we're all humans after all. :)

/r/MensRights also talk about some issues that men face, though they get a little too over zealous, they do raise fair points from time to time.

As for the good part of being a man:

  • well i guess the best part is you don't get pregnant (physically atleast); Can't even imagine how hard it is for you women! Kudos on that.

  • We can also chose if we want to grow a moustache or not.

  • Opening our own jars

Ok i'll stop :D

As a man I do believe it is the duty of respectable males to watch out for woman who are being direspected or abused in public, muslim or not, and stand up for them even if it means risking injury or death.

Ameen to that brother!

well, being a boy isn't a birthday party either!

Especially when you take someone out for dinner to a fancy place and you get the check! :p

But on a serious note, every gender has their advantages/disadvantages which complement each others when brought together, Subhanallah.
