Question to straight people. by mossner1992in AskReddit

As a hetero, I agree. Plus, it seems like a shitty time to start trying to help out. Probably could have pitched in more when you guys were being burned as witches and whatnot.

Million dollar medical bills becoming relatively common in America. by mrcloudiesin politics

[–]TheRockefellers -13 points-12 points ago

Which countries exactly? I know of a number of countries where patients enjoy excellent care for little cost. Most of these systems are funded by governments that are consequently going bankrupt.

As for a solution: there's no substitute for personal responsibility. A lot of our ailments are self-inflicted. If everyone weighed 20 fewer pounds and went in for a checkup every year or two, i think you could see a LOT of savings that would reach across the board.

Why is it that Reddit seems to revere soldiers but seems to dislike anything else which lacks critical thinking? by Cyf3rin AskReddit

[–]TheRockefellers 0 points1 point ago

I understand your concern that a number of the armed conflicts the US has participated in have been pointless or otherwise. Im sure a number of our servicemen do as well. But the US has leveraged its military might for the benefit of its citizens, and, indeed, the world. To wit, America has enjoyed two centuries in which no foreign military has occupied a single acre of American soil. (excepting the civil war, which i think is fair) When was the last time your life was interrupted by armed conflict? For a vast majority of Americans, the answer is never. Our military's strength - and the fact that we exercise it from ime to time - is a big reason for that. We're less than 5% of the world's population, but we enjoy over a quarter of its wealth. If you think that we could keep that up year after year without the men and women of the armed services, you're insane.

Some of us dedicate ourselves so that the rest can enjoy our liberty and luxury. That's why we homor them.

This is what the market will bear, I guess. On one hand, I see this is a fair tradeoff - most if not all of the patients in this article would have died (quickly) fifty years ago. If it costs a million bucks to save a life, so be it.

Even in light of that, medical costs can be outrageous. Between hospital beds and imaging, you can quickly run up five figures without ever really seeing anyone with a medical degree. I honestly dont know how to control these costs though. There are a lot of costs that the medical business passes through to patients (e.g. care to people who cant or dont pay, malpractice lawsuits and insurance), but I doubt these factors would amount to more than a quarter of the surge in costs these past ten years.

As long as people continue to demand the most comprehensive and cutting-edge treatments, prices are going to continue to climb. I dont see a way around it.

Is it considered cheating if a woman has sex with another woman if she's with a man? by [deleted]in AskReddit

...yes. Do you see what happens when you start tinkering with traditional marriage? DO YOU SEE!?

For serious, though. I am concerned that this is a question that even gets asked.

Ah, the EU - 5years behind US antitrust concerns, which is itself 10 years behind the internet.

Is Fox News Responsible for Libelous Misrepresentation or False Advertising? by upgoat4peecein politics

[–]TheRockefellers 0 points1 point ago

Two things: You dont have to prove damages as an element of an intentional tort. (As opposed to negligence.) Of course, you're going to want to prove up SOME damages to make the case worth your while.

The standard of inquiry for libel is generally very high, and these cases are usually fact-intensive and expensive to litigate. These are two very strong bars against a potential suit, especially when settlement is unlikely.

Has anyone heard of this cult-like organization called Mereon? by damngurlin AskReddit

[–]TheRockefellers 1 point2 points ago

Interesting. Im not convinced this is a cult or even a pseudosciences scam, simply because i didnt see a dollar sign on the site.

This actually struck me as a front for an ARG. I'll look into this more tomorrow.

And OP is right about it being nonsense.

All of you redditors with college degrees: Has your degree really helped you in the job market, or is your degree "worthless"? by nunsnunsreversein AskReddit

I wouldn't say the degree itself has helped (English), but the skills I developed certainly did.

Reddit, what is your Zombie plan? by Dovahkiin04in AskReddit

[–]TheRockefellers 0 points1 point ago

Sit tight. Tap the hurricane supplies. All ways in/out of my building are secured by multiple locked doors. That should take me through about a month. By that time, by hood will be sufficiently empty to scavenge, or long overrun. I don't think immediate flight is an option for me.

Generally speaking why is Reddit so negative? by Physicsdummyin AskReddit

[–]TheRockefellers 1 point2 points ago

Reddit is a crucible that tests the merits of all content on the internet. Someone has to keep the reposts, hippie nonsense, reposts, fake content, reposts, and facebook humor in check.

If we were any less exacting, the top 25 would be 25 posts of the exact same poorly-framed photo of a kitten.

What's the best way to approach a girl at the gym? by jmurf454in AskReddit

[–]TheRockefellers 1 point2 points ago

...not doing it ever. If you want to try for an encounter on the way into/out of the gym, go for it. But I've literally never heard a girl say "I love when strange dudes corner me in the gym with small talk."

I'd say most gyms are dominantly occupied by men anyway. Girls don't need any help feeling on edge in that environment.

Breaking Bad is far from underrated. Also check out justified. It's consistently campy but will surprise you from time to time.
