I'm a very young reader (15 years) and have recently discovered a series of pirate books at my library entitled "A Bloody Jack Adventure" by L. A. Meyer. The main character is a young english girl in the time of Napoleon, but she is sort of a tomboy and can't act like a Proper Lady (See: Curse of the Blue Tattoo), she loves to sail and often pretends she is a boy. She still has the impulsiveness and romance of a young girl though, so it's a very interesting character in an interesting setting.
