My best friend came out to his parents about wanting to be a woman. Their enitial reaction wasn't shock, but upset by the emotional pain he has been going through most of his life. They have been buying him estrogen since he came out about it and plan on paying for his operation next year.

Edit: Thanks for all the positive comments about me being a good friend and whatnot. Honestly, I don't deserve the kind words. She has been a great friend for the last few years now and just because she can't help what she feels on the inside shouldn't have anything to do with our friendship. I didn't accept her as a friend before just because she had a penis and I'm not going to lose a friend just because she doesn't.
