Sport Pilot Test Prep? by rturiakin flying

[–]TadoChip 0 points1 point ago

The Gleim books always seem to work good. For my ratings I would go through a Gleim book, and then take practice tests on exams4pilots until I got consistent scores.

Pilots of single engine airplanes. Flying over water. Would you do it? by canadian_stigin flying

In the summer, probably. In the winter, I'd rather not unless that water is good and frozen.

Student seeking PPL looking for Aviation Weather Primer/Training Resources by Port80in flying

[–]TadoChip 0 points1 point ago

Use common sense, and expect the weather to not be completely predictable. Pay attention to the weather patterns in your area. Eventually your local weather will become more predictable, and you will be able to make better go/no go decisions.

The Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, and Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) are good resources to help you learn about the different weather products.

If you want more information on aeronautical decision making, try the Risk Management Handbook.

These can all be found here.

Thanks. I'll check my local shops for the .22 s/l/lr one.

This. Just make sure the barrel fits your gun. For example, I have a 7 shell magazine 500, and the barrel doesn't fit on my 5 shell magazine 500.

Some CFI Help Needed by lfgbrdin flying

[–]TadoChip 2 points3 points ago

Mine is pretty minimal and looks more like the Jeppesen one. I pretty much copied a Private and Commercial syllabus, and added some photocopied details of maneuvers, knowledge items, and standards. Then I arranged them in a logical order, with some dividers separating Private from Commercial stuff.

When I first started teaching I needed to read up on subjects before the lesson, but after a while I pretty much memorized my lessons.

It's good to have an outline of some sort, like the Jeppesen one, to keep you on track during a lesson.

What's your favorite headset? by HeadspaceA10in flying

[–]TadoChip 1 point2 points ago

The Bose A20 is the best I've used so far. The Zulu 1 is OK, but I remember it not blocking all of the lower frequency range as well as the A20 can.

I own a Beyerdynamic HS600, and it works OK. The automatically adjusting noise cancellation works good, but it's not on par with the Bose A20. My main beef with the HS600 is the headband padding, which is not very think and doesn't distribute the headband pressure evenly. The lightness of the headset itself kind of makes up for that though. It also goes though a pair of AA batteries in about 25 hours.

"Saturday Night Speedway"

One of my favorite OC Remixes.

This is my first video game montage, and it happens to be for MW3. Constructive criticism is welcome! by TadoChipin mw3

[–]TadoChip[S] 0 points1 point ago

I agree. I need to work on clip consistency. The opening clip was just an example of how I sometimes use myself as bait to get other players to walk into my killstreaks (I did something similar with a predator missile near the end). I called the airstrike on myself and ran, cause I knew that player was coming to get revenge on me. Pretty meh clip, but I thought it would be ok to have something slow paced while the opening text rolled.

I'll try to keep the clips consistently working with the music if I decide to make another video. For now, this is just a one-off.

Thanks watching, and thanks for the advice.

  1. It was intentional to have some clips (particularly sniping) synched well, and others not so much. I figured having some slower paced clips would give the viewer some time to relax their eyes.

  2. That clip in particular was trying to tell the story of an entire match in 5 seconds. To put it into context that clip was at the end of a S&D game tied 3-3, with myself and one enemy alive. I thought I had the game in the bag until the last guy on the other team planted at .8 seconds to go. I'm not good at S&D so anytime I win a game like that it seems amazing to me. In hindsight, I should have left it out or made a separate video about it.

  3. I have a CRT standard definition TV, and the video capture device I used was pretty meh. As much as I would like to be able to play and record in 720p or higher, I can't justify buying a new TV until the one I have conks out.

  4. No LMGs or Shotguns though, if you noticed. >.> I was just trying to show my general playing style.

  5. I was kicking that exact thought around in my head. The yellow was chosen for my gamertag, cause tado chips are yellow... Not the classiest color for a title though. I was gonna leave it black, but decided to put that clip in at the last second. I'll let the title stand alone next time. What do you think about the font? It's Anime Ace BB, but I was half expecting someone to comment "COMIC SAAAAANNS!!!"

Thank you for taking time to watch and critique my video.

Try your best to fly on a regular basis (weekly if you can). Participating in the WINGS program is a good idea too.

best wind speed and crosswind experience? by wassupdude82in flying

[–]TadoChip 0 points1 point ago

Coming back from a fly-out to Myrtle Beach my group encountered mountain waves in a 172S. Pitched up to about 65 knots, we were descending at 100-300 fmp with a ground speed of about 6 knots.

My most memorable crosswind experience was when I did my commercial night controlled field landings with a 16 knot direct crosswind. The experience made me much better at landing in general.

What training to do next? (xpost from r/pilots by capriceragtopin flying

[–]TadoChip 0 points1 point ago

Do you instrument next, then do your single engine land commercial, then get a multiengine add-on. That's the path I'm taking.

What I could have done differently was spend more time in the flight school's 152 to save a bit of money. It didn't matter too much though, cause I got my CPL at 195 hours due to a 141 commercial short course that was available when I was training for it.

You could also do some multiengine flying to build time toward the 250TT required for a part 61 commercial (if you're going the part 61 route).

Getting your CFI and CFII is also highly recommended.
