My word, do I love that man.

Can someone explain just WHAT is going on in this Holland video for Euro 2012? by rwhittin soccer

[–]Steakers 3 points4 points ago

Sure. It's the Netherlands squad taking part in what appears to be one of the greatest adverts of all time. Just when you'd forgotten the Birdie Song existed, too.

I love spicy food, but there are times my poor arsehole can't deal with it. I remember a particular Brick Lane Vindaloo that had me shitting fire through the eye of a needle all that night in clubs and most of the following morning. Still, nothing beats a spicy curry, ring-sting and all.

Rinse and repeat all day as necessary.

If you can function as a normal member of society after doing all that just once then you weren't hungover.

What's going on with Distin's contract? by cookthemansomeeggsin Everton

Distin is a fucking beast. He is probably the only human being that manages to get faster as he ages. He'll be good for us until Duffy is ready to step up.

Europeans have been ruled for so long that they trust the government to know what is best for them. Americans have an inherent distrust of the government.

That is a pretty poor generalisation to make. There are people on both sides of the Atlantic who trust their government, and people on both sides who don't.

Also, American police forces are heavily militarised, especially when compared to European ones. This strikes me as interesting, because if armed citizenry was so effective in protecting themselves, then why the need for such a militarised police force? Well, of course, it isn't about effectiveness, it's about freedom.

However, that freedom has lead to the creation of some police forces that are better equipped than the armies of some European countries. If Americans distrust their government so, then why do they insist on creating a situation that forces the police to be better prepared and better armed than a militia of citizenry could ever be?

Please forgive my generalisations, but I hope you can understand what I am saying. I am also not saying that the situation is Europe is any better of course, and having the means to defend yourself is an important right. However, does it not just create a stronger enemy?

Of course!

It was a poor quality post from a "novelty" account (I use the term very loosely) by the name of ImTheTrollFaceMeme. That account is some of the most cancerous shit I've seen in my internet career.

Sounds like how I remember it. It's a kind of a "best of both" situation. Very nice weather, but a lot of familiar home comforts. You will shit your pants when they try to land the plane though, what with the tiny runway that ends with a sudden drop into the sea while also doubling as the only road to the mainland.

Recently on Reddit the UK got a lot of lack for 6 men being arrested and charged for remarks they made on facebook. What are your feelings on what happened? Do you feel differently as a Brit? by MattyHchristin unitedkingdom

[–]Steakers 1 point2 points ago

Sure, I agree with that. To me incitng hatred would be very similar to inciting violence, though obviously they would be different in the eyes of the law. It is the incitement of violence I think needs to be dealt with, as people's lives could be at stake. I'm not too bothered by people taking offence at things though, that's their problem.

The vast majority of adults should be held accountable for almost everything they say and do. In fact, if you aren't prepared to be accountable for sonething you are about to do then you probably should think carefully about doing it.

However, being held accountable does not necessarily mean the police kicking down your door at dawn. If they were posting messages about how they were going to go out and commit racially-motivated violence, then sure, maybe it is. In most cases though people have just had their heads filled with racist bullshit and say stupid things. The key here is in the education system rather than the justice system.

But incitement of racial or religious hatred goes beyond harassment in my opinion. There needs to be a way to deal with it, though I'd like to see it dealt with in a way that doesn't impinge on free speech. Tricky proposition.

Not by the media, but the fans get incredibly frustrated in the first half of the season. However, he is probably the one thing keeping the club afloat right now, and if he were to leave we'd be hard-pressed to attract another manager of similar ability, so we grin and bear it. It also has a lot to do with losing key players late in the summer window (e.g. Arteta of the last day this season).
