Is my new last name too douchey? by SooManyQuestionsin AskReddit

Don't much care about family. I hope friends understand where we're coming from, but I don't think anyone would tell us honestly if they think it's a douche move.

Went back and re-read this and thought I should answer the other questions as well. We did not have a traditional wedding. We first got legally married about 5 years ago so that he could have medical and travel benefits from my job, that was a basic courthouse marriage which we did not invite anyone to because we didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Once we earned enough money we had a very basic ceremony with a nice dinner for our closest 60 friends/family. We then took our immediate families on a 4 day cruise (something they would never be able to do on their own, we both come from poor families).

We bought rings, they're about $15 each... Used them for the ceremony and thought we'd wear them, but he doesn't like how it feels on his finger, so no, we don't wear rings.

We are non-traditional in many ways, and maybe this actually fits our way of life?

I cut my own hair - it's cheap, easy to maintain and I always get what I want. Why do people think it is weird / cheap ? by CanIGetaHellYeahin AskReddit

I hope you clean up afterwards, or do something nice to her. I really mind the cutting of the hair, but I don't like the clean up after, and it would certainly be nice to get something out of it...... Unless she also has a "secret" crush on you...

I can confirm this, as I am a wife who has been cutting her husband's hair for about 7 years... Perfect every time, and no social awkwardness about saying that I missed a few hairs or something is wrong.

We would rather have a name we can get the domain to (and something unique at the same time)

well, his family way back is french, so that part isn't so bad... but really, we're both american, i don't even know what american name would be other than something like smith or jones... But we want something unique.

I'm really on the side with who cares what people think, but he's one of those socially awkward types, so... that's why we're here on r/askreddit

The reason we're changing is because his name is hyphenated, which has caused a lot of problems for him throughout life, filling out forms, traveling, pretty much any time anyone needs to see his last name.

We found this name by looking though urls that are open, and picked the first one we could pronounce and wasn't too long.

As for mine, I'd like to remove myself from the family.

it's the first one we could pronounce that had the domain available.

I like the idea, he was all for it until it got up to the time to actually do it... Now he's double thinking the whole idea. With a tattoo at least your parents will tell you not to do it, friends and family seem to be on board with the idea, but I'm afraid that they're just trying to be nice to our face.
