If by "special releases" you mean "countries lacking absurd sugar tariffs and corn subsidies," you might be right, but don't let my American username get in the way of your facts.

Does anybody know any good spots around albany for photography? by I_AM_SAYINGin Albany

[–]Socialism 1 point2 points ago

Another good spot is on the side of Routes 9 & 20 on the hill coming out of Rensselaer toward East Greenbush. From that angle, the Empire State Plaza looks like Nelson Rockefeller's concrete middle finger.

Well...that, and the fact that American Coca-Cola is made from industrial corn sludge, while Coca-Cola in the rest of the world is made from sugar.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Jimmy Vielkind, Andrew Cuomo's sycophantic fluffer-in-chief by Socialismin Albany

[–]Socialism[S] 0 points1 point ago

Properly sucking up to the right people on the Times Useless capitol beat can net you all sorts of high-paying opportunities; Spitzer snapped up a bunch to work in his press office after '06. Jimmy wants a six-figure salary and an office on the second floor, just like his predecessors got, and if he's a good little sycophant, he'll get it; actual journalism be damned.

I would like some journalists that aren't blatant power whores. And no, I'd rather have Spitzer back.

You are operating under the misguided assumption that SUNY is a university system and not an ongoing public works project. This is par for the course these days. You can be sure this is being paid for out of a different piggybank, SUNY Construction Fund, which enables college presidents and trustees to throw their hands in the air and say "Oh, but the state says we have to spend it on this." There is always money to be cut from academic departments, always money to be made from raising tuition, and always construction to be done, no matter how pointless, especially if there's the chance that it'll lure some new suckers into the incoming freshman class who are more impressed by image than substance (which unfortunately seem to comprise a majority these days).

My kitchen sponge is smelly. I pop it in the microwave for a minute, rinse it off, and the smell is gone. Is this really because the bacteria are killed? by PotatoMusicBingein askscience

[–]Socialism 1 point2 points ago

How would dipping the sponge in vinegar beforehand affect this process? I've always boiled sponges in vinegar on the stove, which seems to kill bacteria, but the sponges seem to fall apart faster after I boil them.

Sans the MSG that the store-bought stuff has that basically makes you wolf down the entire tub in 10 minutes

Yes, because Time Warner is going to give you a straight story about the occupation. I also used to believe everything I saw on TV, back when my age was measured in single digits.

Typical head-up-the-ass routine from Dicker. Law schools really only get worked up about felony cases, especially tax evasion & fraud.

One day trip by platypusperryin Albany

Just about all of these places will prepare you some great food for $10 or less:

Mexican: Bros Tacos on Ontario: delicious, cheap, sketchy college-ghetto neighborhood.

BBQ: Capital Q is right across the street from Bros. Get anything, make it a combo.

Italian: You can pretty much pick up a rock and hit a good restaurant with a light toss. The best ones seem to be along New Scotland or Delaware. If you want a great deli sandwich, Andy's on Delaware closes at 7pm, and one of their subs is basically two meals.

Chinese: A Dragon on Madison. If your budget is tight and you need valuable beer money, for like $4 or 5 you can order a student special, which is a small but filling portion of any given combo.

Beer: Mahar's at the corner of Western & Madison has literally hundreds of different beers. Only beer though, no wine or liquor. And it closes at midnight. And the seats fill up quickly. If the bar scene isn't your thing, almost all of their beers can be found at Oliver's on Colvin near Central

Pizza: Soho on Lark. Open til 4am. Paesan's and I Love NY Pizza never really impressed me, but Soho is always good.

Wings: Elbo Room on Delaware, or if you prefer something a little more addicting, Wings Over Albany's breading is half flour half MSG.

Shortly after 11 p.m., State Police began warning the 24 protesters who remained that they would be arrested if they didn't leave state property. The demonstrators were warned two more times before police began arresting each one by one just after 11:30 p.m. Police tied their hands behind their backs with nylon bands and walked them to a blue State Police van.

From there, the protesters, who left to a chorus of anti-Cuomo chants from a nearby crowd, were shuttled to a meeting room in the concourse of Empire State Plaza. They were issued appearance tickets for trespassing and released by 1 a.m.

TLDR: State Police Praetorian Guard burned a whole bunch of gas bringing protestors to an office that they could've walked to in less time, to hand them all tickets that will all be dismissed, to enforce a curfew that somebody on the second floor pulled out of their ass last week.

As someone who lived on a floor with a bunch of vocal performance majors, this loses its novelty after about the second week, usually around 6:30am Tuesday.
