I know. You know how it is. Civilians get confused fast. It's just easier to say door gunner. Say crew chief and they think "wtf is a crew chief? Sounds dumb"

Haha yes. 6 of them. And also...yes I have done it a couple of times. Once the ICS was pressed down. It was recorded and everyone got a pretty good laugh when we RTB

Oh no, there's a lot to it. Right side of the a/c aim right and high of the target. Left, left and low. Theres all kinds of fundamentals. There's actually a class instructors are required to tech. Oddy enough it's called FUNDAG. Fundamentals of aerial gunnery

Depends on the gun. The new GAU-21 .50 cal carries 600 rds in its ammo can(cabin mounted look it up before you start trolling) but it will over heat and can actually blow up the barrel after 500. The GAU-17 minimum (my favorite) holds up to 4500 in the can. At 3000+- 10% rpm. That's 1.5 min of continuous firing. You can over heat the barrels in that amount of time. But you would have to be in a hover.

Yea, yes I do. Idiot. Do you really think we just go around and shoot random fucking people? I swear. People these days. Maybe we Gould line up all the stupid kids on reddit that make retarded comments and shoot them.

We dd once. But it was a mistake. We were given coordinates for an attack. Turns out the JTAC mixed up his friendly and enemy coordinates. No one got hutlrt though. Thank god

We wear what's called a gunners belt. It staps around your chest and the clips to the cargo rings on the floor. And people have fallen out. It is, unfortunately, more common than you think. Usually people being stupid. Like hanging out the back of a CH-53 by it. Them the other guy couldn't pull him back in. He passes out and fell out of his belt at 2500 ft

Not necessarily, you what we call homegrown crew chiefs. They're aren't actually crew chiefs though. They're called AO's (or aerial observers) I'm not exactly sure how the HMM or the HMH beast works. But that's how it goes in the the HMLA.

Actually, the primary mos designator is 6174 (for Huey's) and I said door gunner because as you very well know, if I said crew chief, te civvies would have no idea what i was talking about. But just to clarify your little hiccup there. You go from basic, to mct, to pansacola for air crew candidate school, if you pass and go my route (H-1) you go camp Pendleton on the air station for CNATT (that's center for naval aviation technical training) then you to HMLA/T-303 for crew member training (CMT) then from there you to your "fleet" unit. There is not a single rank/TIS requirement for this MOS. you just have to run a first class PFT CFT and be some what good at swimming. That's it. Look up your shit before you try to bomb me. Thanks! 😄

We never fire starionary. It's the most dangerous of the 3 ways to engage a target. As far as shooting on the move. Diving towards the target(the most common) is not that hard. It all depends on what gun you're on and what side of the aircraft you're on. We usually fly with the GAU-16/GAU-21 on the #1 side (left if you're sitting in the pilot seat) and te GAU-17 on the #2 side. We aren't actually called door gunners. That's just thee easiest way to describe it. We're actually called crew chiefs. And we do a whole lot more than you think. We are mechanics on the plane when not flying. We inspect them to ensure they're safe for flight. We take care of all of the crew served guns(we don't touch rockets, flares, or the cobras 20mm Vulcan) we take care of any passengers that are coming with us, make sure all the gear is up to date, and most importantly...we make sure there's enough did for everyone 😒 cause pilots suck...and they never bring anything thy need...who goes on a cross country flight and doesn't at least bring a piss bottle and a bag of jerky? Fucking tools. Sorry, got side tracked. The hardest part of the job is horrible hours. You fly late at night one day them you fly in the afternoon the next. It's not ideal for the family man. But if you're single and don't mind a shitty sleep schedule, rock on.

Nope. The way I see it, it's either them or me. And I've got a GAU-17, along with a multi million dollar aircraft loaded up with all kinds of doo-dads made for finding sneaky douche bags.

Sorry about the late reply. And yes, I have fired at people. On a couple of occasions. Usually it's in support of the ground guys. I've only ever returned fire in self defense twice.

I was originally going to be a fixed wing airframe mechanic. But I got hooked up while going through school for it. It sounded cool so I said "why not?"
