I'm not sure if that dunk by Iggy was truly awesome or it was just amazing in comparison to the rest of the game.

I think the Clippers just bit on 10 pump fakes in one possession.

It's strange to watch this game being so close and just know that the Spurs are going to win.

Why do people consider Tim Duncan the best PF ever? by hero_this_city_needsin nba

[–]ShakespearInTheAlley 1 point2 points ago

That's why you don't understand it. The person a player is has a lot to do with his success and therefore how he is viewed historically. If you're an asshole while hanging out with a bunch of guys for eight months out of the year then you're team is going to do worse than if you were a good guy.

Stats never tell the whole story. Never ever ever ever ever ever.

Duncan is better than Malone because Duncan is a playoff finisher, whereas Malone put up stats but never could finish out a game well (kind of like that LeBron fellow). On top of that, who's to say that Duncan has had a better team than Malone? Didn't Malone have one of the three best point guards of all time dishing to him on the pick and roll for the majority of his career?

As for the Duncan vs. KG argument, that one is a lot closer than Duncan-Malone, but KG is nowhere near 100x the defender that Duncan was. You could argue that he's a better one-on-one defender, sure, but there's never been a better help defender in the past two decades than Tim Duncan. Duncan has also played smarter defense for the entirety of his career. As a young man he was always one to block the shot to keep it inbounds, whereas Garnett only started doing that when he went to the Celtics.

Barkely vs. Duncan is also quite a blowout based on attitude alone. Answer me this, would you rather have a guy average 20 a game and be one of the five best teammates in NBA history or a guy that averaged 22 a game and was a complete asshole?

I guess to really sum it all up, Duncan just understands basketball better, and by that I don't mean he understands the X's and O's of basketball, but the interpersonal relationships that it takes to play on a successful basketball team. He is one of the four best players of all-time when it comes to knowing how to play on a team. He has not once looked at his stats and said, "You know what? I'm not getting enough touches." He has been on good teams for over a decade because he has been too smart to try to be bigger than the game.

Conversely, you could say that he's unlucky because he has to coach LeBron and D-Wade.
