So they didn't actually change the name for BPD? Guess I'll keep ducking the diagnosis with my doc then...

In other news, recent research has found that all serial killers have enjoyed milk in the past. Do you know a milk drinker? Watch yourself.

(I'll bet ummm-no is a milk drinker...)

Hey folks, let's not be asking the BPD software guy for an estimate, okay? by Scary_The_Clownin BPD

Oh - it's definitely the latter.

I used to describe what I felt as "mostly mania with occasional depressive episodes" and thought I was bipolar until I found out that in general bipolar folks suffer depressive episodes in long spells - days or weeks.

I have depressive spells on the order of hours....

Most of the time I feel like the last harmony in this song - both at the same time...

I absolutely know that I'm far more empathic than most people.

Heck, I went through a pretty dark time where I started feeling almost sociopathic, but I would never hurt anyone because, well, I don't want to hurt anyone...

Adderall can cause personality changes - lowered inhibitions, hyper sexuality. I get suicidal thoughts (but not tendencies, if that makes sense) when I come off it.

A lot of the problems are when it's prescribed but not needed, or when the patient takes too much...

because I confessed to him that I cheated on him. And that has happened with a lot of boyfriends in the past.

I don't know how out of line this is, but - have you ever been on Adderall?

I guess most BPD's are aware of this, but it was a shock to me that the side effects listed for major neuro pharmaceuticals aren't a joke.

When my wife started taking Adderall, she was like jekyll & hyde, which involved some very serious "impulse control" type events that seriously stressed our marriage.

Don't know if that helps, but I thought I'd share. Best wishes.

I also tend to cry during certain commercials too. Not sure if anyone else experiences that at all.

You might talk to your therapist about medication to level the mood swings. I've got some medications that I know help to ease the real depression swings. I take it when I'm working, but leave my personal time to the waves.

I also suffer from anxiety attacks. They're relatively rare, but I have a small prescription of Klonopin I refer to as my "in case of emergency break glass" stash.

BPD is such a broad spectrum of personality quirks that I think we have to learn to deal with most of the effects on our own - trying to medicate everything would have us popping pills 24/7 and it would be like playing whack-a-mole with side effects. But for some of the really distressing emotional effects it may not be a bad idea to have some medications available if necessary. Talk it over with your counselor, and make it an ongoing conversation.

Best wishes - we all love you. :-D

(PS - best not to tell your counselor that you're feeling better because the Scary Clown helped you out...)

One important thing to remember is that there is nothing "wrong" with you. We're all different, and everyone has their demons. The emotional outburst thing takes some management, but being aware of it is half the battle.

There are people who love you because you are who you are, and that will always be true. There are people who won't like you, or who are assholes, or whatever. This is not a judgement of you - it's just what it is. Don't worry about them. Not everyone has to like you, not everyone has to "approve" of you - you live for yourself and your loved ones.

And if you ever feel weird about your outbursts, I'm a 43 year old, 6'4" man who cries at the drop of a hat. But I also throw things when I get angry - this has taken an immense amount of self-control, because when someone sees a 6'4" man throw something across the room, they never treat you the same way again.

So yeah - we're all weird in our own way

The only Garbage song that sets me off is "Bleed Like Me," but it's not that bad for me.

Do you ever listen to music to set yourself off on purpose?

I can see what you're saying. That kind of stuff tweaks me a bit, but not too badly.

Sad stuff rips me up, especially things like failed efforts. But what really gets me are things the celebrate people rising up above their base nature - self-sacrifice, putting aside differences to work together, etc.

which some people have suggested should be called "Emotional Dysregulation Disorder"

Ugh. Didn't they get the clue from the way folks avoid BPD? Emotional disorders are bad enough without a name that makes it sound like you're going to fall apart at any moment.

I like the "Kodachrome" metaphor - that's exactly right. It's only in the last year (I'm 43) that I've finally come to understand that most people don't feel this intensely about things. I always thought it was a case of "they don't feel that way about the things I like" when it seems that they don't feel that way about anything.

And thanks for the cake day wishes!

I'm renovating a duplex I just bought. The HVAC ducts vent not only to the rooms, but to the roof as well. Is this completely wrong? by tiggerbrenin DIY

[–]Scary_The_Clown 1 point2 points ago

Check local permit requirements. I know the duct in is a result of the "sick house" scare from a few years ago - maybe it's possible the locality figured venting a little air as well wouldn't be a bad idea?

Or maybe they just put vents on both sides of the HVAC unit to be sure?
