Who else is surprised to find they are addicted to working out? by SaltyChickenin Fitness

[–]SaltyChicken[S] 0 points1 point ago

I hadn't considered this, but there's a lot of truth to this. I thought it was purely a physiological thing, but my life kind of sucks right now outside the gym.

Best way to learn the whole fretboard? by Ijustlostmyjengajamin Guitar

I also struggle with this because I always choose to work on the physical part of learning guitar when I practice; I don't want to slow down to learn the name of every note I play. I do make myself know the name of the root note when I play power chords. They're easy enough that I have room in my brain to think about the note names. That pretty much takes care of the botton two strings. Knowing those makes the third and fourth strings easy to figure out since the octaves of the root notes are just two frets up.

When I'm away from my guitar, I like drilling with Fret Tester on my iPhone.

That may have been me, although I only posted it here. I saw it at Brickworld Chicago, and it was too awesome not to share. I didn't mean to steal your thunder. Great build!

I don't know if it will help, but I for one am jealous as hell of you having a gig. Your skills no doubt way outshine mine. Enjoy your arrival at this new level of musicianship.

I don't get this kind of thing. What kind of person spends their time and energy expressing how much they dislike something. I see it all the time in the internet, like when people become a fan of a band on Facebook only to comment on how shitty the band is. While I'm sure there are countless videos devoted to Justin Bieber, which I'm not interested in, I just don't watch them. I am not compelled to make a video complaining about their existence. Life's too short.

DAE push and jump on a shopping cart out of the store like a 7 yr old? by MeThisGuyin DoesAnybodyElse

I'm 39, and have always wondered why I was the only one doing this. It gets me through and out the store fast, and it's a good time. I never exit isles while rolling, though. Safety first. I might worry more about the weird looks if I didn't know they'd be eating my cart dust in about a second, and I'd already have my next item crossed off my shopping list.

Is it really that weird to go to a concert by yourself? by Tirith45in AskReddit

[–]SaltyChicken 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've gone to one on my own, and admittedly felt a little out of place standing alone in the crowd waiting for the concert to start. However, once the show starts, it's all about you and the band. Your attention is on them, not your friends (if they were there). It's too loud to talk to them, anyway.

Juggling seems like a good fit for you. Make sure to start with some good beanbag juggling balls; when they drop, they won't bounce away from you.

To follow your passion, or play it safe - one of the biggest choices you'll ever make. I chose to play it safe, and have enjoyed a financially stable career which I don't despise. I try to make time for my passion as a hobby, but it's been a relatively small part of my life.

It's been twenty years since I made that choice, and I’ve often wondered about that road less taken. As I look back, I love the life my career choice enabled: food, shelter, wife, kids, toys. Sometimes I tell myself I would do it differently if I had the chance, the whole “you only live once” thing. But, the grass is always greener. If I was serious about my passion, I could make more time for it in my life.

My advice is to keep your passion as a minor so you can expand your knowledge and skills in it, but go with a more secure career / major.

Or, you can be braver than most and follow your dreams.
