CHALLENGE - Week 9 (3/4 - 3/10) Check-in for Operation:Snowmelt (Self check-in ONLY - READ BELOW) by BigCountry1369in loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 1 point2 points ago

in the process of a man-made plateau. I've had a bad few weeks, but I haven't really gained. I've stopped tracking as closely as I should. I've also stopped telling myself no when it's 7pm and I'm at my calorie limit.

I'm kicking back into serious gear today though, and I'm going to look into keto since I see everyone bragging about how not hungry they are!

Even though I feel like I'm in the process of failing, I'm still eating so much better than I ever have before.

Congratulations! This is so important for when you hit your target. You know what you should be eating and you've proven that you can eat healthy without needing to break out the smartphone every 4 seconds.

Start of challenge: 228 Week 8 Checkin: 211.0

This is only a .8 loss from last week's weigh in however I delayed my checkin last week to let some water weight even out (had a couple special occasions) so today's weigh in comes only 3 days after last week.

The important part is that I'm still losing and there's only 4 weeks left on the challenge. I'm at 17 down even. I was hoping to reach 25 down for the duration of the challenge, but I'll be happy with 20 if I don't make it to 25.

There will be another challenge after this one, right?

I see the numbers going down but I don't see a change by mymarineboyin loseit

I'm at almost 18 lbs lost and the only thing I've noticed is being able to tie my shoes like a normal person instead of tying on the side bc that was all I could reach. Physically I see no difference.

Have you seen your mom recently? Mine noticed immediately at around 12-15 lbs. the downside to this is that she also the first to comment when I gain too!

A question for the lovely ladies of losit (yay us!) by oryxain loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 0 points1 point ago

I haven't gained during that week, but my loss is a lot less. I imagine once y weight loss slowdown, I'll see a little bump up on the scale. I've been averaging about 2 lb per week. Shark week usually has me at .6 or .8 but the following week I'm around 2.8 so my body seems to even out.

Is it bad if I count calories under the wrong day? by Kossa2013in loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 2 points3 points ago

It's all the same going strictly by the numbers.

In fact, if I'm having a craving, I'll see if I had any "extra" unused calories the last few days and if so, I'll indulge a little. The Loseit app tracks how far above or below goal you are for the week so seeing it in the red or one day isn't as discouraging. I went 300 over the other day but was 500 under the day before that so I didn't let it bother me.

Weekly Scale/Non-Scale Victory Thread: 2/19-2/25 by LoseItModeratorin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 1 point2 points ago

No SV for me this week. I didn't lose at all so I was sort of looking for some kind of NSV to make myself feel better when this morning I found it.

Before I even realized what I was doin I was bent over from a standing position an tying my shoes with my feet on the floor and tying them in the middle!

My shoes have always had the bow pulled to the side due to having to bend my leg sideways or prop up on a chair to comfortably tie my shoes.

It's a small thing that many probably take for granted, but I was really happy.

I normally check in on Sunday's but I'm giving myself an extra day. I went a little overboard yesterday and I at least want my water weight to even out before I accept a 5lb gain.

[NSV] Guess who's no longer obese? by louddwnunderin loseit

Congrats on being overweight!

This is such a funny sub where we congratulate for bein overweight and get excited about your losses.

I started on the very far edge of obese but not quite morbidly obese. I can't wait until I'm just overweight.

I'm glad it was helpful and not too corny. The things that happened to you as a child don't define you as an adult. Whatever happened to you, I'm sure was horrible, but that isn't you anymore. The more you feel like you've taken control of your life, the easier it is to believe that.

You're two 170 lbs dudes. For every pound you lose, the you that doesn't care is going away. Once you've lost half of that asshole there should be so little holding you back that it's a breeze! The abused child is the one that grew up into the adult that shut down and didn't care, not you. Lose that kid!

If you're still paying attention, your first MAJOR goal should be 85 pounds or the scared and abused little kid that grew up into the jerk that doesn't care that you're fat. If your poblems partly stem from abuse, viewing it as no longer carryin that person with you is an incredible weight lifted of your shoulders (pun intended).Within that you want to set tons of mini goals to keep you motivated. Mark milestones (size changes, below 300, someone noticed your loss, minutes of exercise, days of sticking to diet)

Just a little psychobabble from a former psych student to maybe up the motivation since I think the hows were pretty well covered.

I don't know that I have any advice that hasn't already been given, but I wanted to say that I love that this sub is so inclusive. I've seen weightloss forums that are downright mean if someone isn't "fat enough" to participate, and I love that you felt comfortable posting and were given honest responses. We can all sympathize with needing to lose whether you're at 130 or 330. Just make sure that you're healthy while you're doing it. As someone on her way down from 228 at only 5'4" I hope when I'm just 5-10lbs from my goal that people will be just as supportive.

BMR Versus Daily Calorie Needs? Which is more useful? by Zodikosisin loseit

then I think it would be more accurate to still choose sedentary and Track your 30 minute walk 3 times a week as exercise rather than an ambiguous multiplier. This strikes me as more accurate.

The portion you want is not always the portion you get: a quick guide to grain portions by Tonickalin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 3 points4 points ago

It's important to know if the serving size refers to dry or cooked so you can measure at the correct stage, but beyond that, it isn't going to matter as long as you're cooking in water. Your pasta didn't create more pasta, it took on water which has no calories.

If a serving is a half cup of pasta dry and it's 1 cup after I cook it, then it's still the same number of calories and the same serving size since I measured at the specified uncooked state.

The info on how long things keep is good to have though. I tend to feel bad wasting things, but also don't get really psyched to eat leftovers after a couple of days.

BMR Versus Daily Calorie Needs? Which is more useful? by Zodikosisin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 0 points1 point ago*

EDIT - I misunderstood. If you're subtracting your exercise already then ONLY subtract no more than your BMR times 1.2. this accounts for the calories you use while existing and going about your day as if you had a desk job. Your exercise is included in the "activity level" multiplier and are essentially being counted twice if you're already tracking and counting exercise PLUS pick "active" on one of those calculators.

If your walk to class is significant, or you have this massive set of stairs that you do 5 times a day, it's worth adding that as exercise, but be honest if these activities are not that major. I prefer to leave things like that out as it gives me a small buffer in the case of calorie miscalculation.

What should I do specifically to gain a narrower waist? by basilobsin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 0 points1 point ago

I was shopping recently and Gap has a line of pants that are sold in 3 styles from super curvy to straight through the waist and hip. If your shape doesn't bother you, and it's mostly finding clothes that fit, maybe you just need recommendations on what brands carry clothes for your shape.

Before I was fat, I still had a big butt, an finding pants was equally difficult because everything that fit y ass, was way too big In the waist. Not to mention that at just barely 5'4 a "short" is just barely perfect until they're washed and shrink and a "regular" is almost always too long.

Does anyone out there lose consistently - a little bit every day? by mahoniain loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 1 point2 points ago

I weigh daily but only record once a week. My daily weight even at the same time varies within about 3-4 lbs. this is due to my not pooping every day anymore and also depends on how late I ate dinner the night before.

Is there ANYONE out there who lost weight without tracking calories? by girlinmafraqin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 1 point2 points ago

It seems as though many (but certainly not all) of the people responding didn't track calories strictly, but still tracked them by having an idea of howard calories they were eating and rounding or guessing. I'd imagine you still need to look at packaging to see how many calories per serving these items are even if you're not strictly measuring and calculating your serving size.

I'd argue that looking at packaging is akin to tracking calories, just not as strictly as many others do it.

Counting calories was a necessity for me. I tried to lose weight by just making healthy choices, but you can get fat on too much healthy stuff too. If chicken breast is 150 calories per serving that sounds great! I'll eat chicken until I'm full and I'll be super healthy. Since I'm eating such a healthy main dish, I can cheat a little and have butter on my broccoli. Suddenly, I'm 800 calories in and have consumed 2/3 my calories for the day in one sitting.

This is why NOT counting didn't work for me.

What can I do better? by semper_bibiturin loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 3 points4 points ago

Pay attention to what you're eating. Write it all down and track calories. even if you're eating the right stuff, you could be eating to much off it. Check out the FAQ, calculate your BMR then calculate you're TDEE and eat at a deficit when you factor in exercise. Take calories burned estimates on gym equipment with a grain of salt. Always round down.

Only down 16 lbs and I seem to be down half a cup. I finally broken down and bought D cups only about 6 months ago (I had been a C my entire adult life and was in denial that I had gone up).

I'm assuming since they were the last to gain, the girls are the first thing I'll lose. It's too bad since I got rid of all my smaller bras. I haven't gone down in band size yet, but I have started fastening on the second set of hooks instead of the biggest.

Have any of you lost weight without worrying about carbs? by itsanerikain loseit

[–]RightSaidFed 3 points4 points ago

I'm 6 weeks in and 16 lbs down and haven't tracked carbs.

Since high carb things are typically also high calorie things, I'm making some choices that look like I'm being carb-conscious, but the carbs themselves don't factor into my decision making process.
