Seeing as the weather is nice, I took my indoor cat-boy out to sit by the river for the first time. He was very confused... by JayOttin aww

I take my kitty out on a leash too! She absolutely loves it but I always feel like a complete weirdo when other people walk by and look at me like I'm a nut. :-/

Ok recent grads, unemployed people, anyone who wants a new job. I'm a recruiter, I'd like to answer your questions. by ijustwanttopost2in AMA

[–]RhapsodyQ 0 points1 point ago

I replied to another comment on this thread, since I was a recruiter in a major city for about a year. and this was my favorite question to answer when a candidate asked. the BEST response you can ever come out of the gate is: " well Im currently making X monies at my job and I'm open as far as new opportunities. ultimately, I am most interested in the job and the opportunity it presents"

If someone pushes more on a hard number it would be best to let them start the bidding, so to speak. If this is the first or not the final interview and they throw out a number that doesnt sit well, dont fight it yet. something a lot of people dont realize is that offer letters can be negotiable. its all about timing. If you are interviewing through a recruiter DO NOT mention numbers. If you do, you will either low ball yourself or cut yourself out of the running, when the recruiter could have (maybe) easily gotten you what you wanted or more.

I was a recruiter for about a year and this is a question I spent a lot of time prepping candidates on. It is imperative that you dont bash your current job or put what youre doing now in a negative light. focus on what your future with the new company might be. I wouldnt go with the super generic 'I'm looking for new opportunites' line, but elaborate on that. things like 'well i was exposed to doing some professional cupcake baking at my current job and I know working at your company would give me the chance to learn more about cupcakes. Baking in general is an interest of mine and I'd love to expand on that skillset.' it also doesnt hurt to hit on relevant skills you already have that would be an asset to the new company. Or mention your ambitions to be a manager or senior level person that can advise newer people or lead a team. employeers will see it as you envisioning yourself with their company for the long haul and show you are goal oriented and willing to take on responsibility.

Today I witnessed a young man get rejected by his parents in public for being gay. What's the saddest thing you've witnessed happen to someone else in public? by Pixshelin AskReddit

A few months ago I was at a local burger joint pretty late at night with my boyfriend and a friend and her husband. Now that I think about it it was also St. Patty's day, or the weekend of. The bar was really crowded and we finally managed to squeeze into 3 seats so all of us but my friends' husband were sitting. Next to us there were two guys and a girl, decked out in green and very obviously smashed. We watched them take one, two, three, four shots as a group while we were waiting for one drink. It became very obvious Guy #1 was trying to hit on the girl. And at first she was having none of it. Guy #2 was also trying his hand at hitting on her but he wasn't nearly as smooth. Eventually, Guy #1 managed to make enough of a move that he and the girl were facing each other, faces very close, speaking intimately. Guy #2 begins to realize he is going to lose this round and resigns himself to standing next to them at the bar, ordering more drinks. Guy #1 slowly starts getting more impassioned with the girl, and eventually starts touching her face and murmuring to her. Then things take a turn and he's yelling at her. Things like "fuck you Jessica, fuck you!" and "I know you'll sleep with anyone, just like you always do. You are such a slut." As he is saying these horrible things, I realize the girl is bawling her eyes out, and is so physically appalled by him that she is slowly backing into my friend and her husband. So much so that she is practically in my friend's face at one point. After maybe ten, twenty minutes of this, Guy #2 who is being utterly ignored by his friends at this point) decides he's had enough of this shit, grabs his jacket and stumbles out of the bar. A few minutes after that my friends and I leave as well, and we run into Guy#2 on the street. He is stumbling in circles and has no clue where he is. Another group of people pass him and start heckling him. We watched him enough to make sure he wasn't getting in a car and left him to his devices. It really was just one of the saddest things all around I'd witnessed in awhile.

tl;dr: went to a bar St. Patty's day weekend. One drunk guy beat out his bro in hitting on some girl, and proceeded to bad mouth her at the bar and make her cry before taking her home. The losing drunk guy left without his friends noticing and got made fun of outside to boot.

Did you have extensive knowlege of the wilderness and how to survive before you started these trips? or are most of your skills self taught in the field? I'm thinking more specifically if you do any animal tracking/use of plants and other woodsy things.

I got circumcised today. Any tips? by varunnin AskReddit

[–]RhapsodyQ 1 point2 points ago

For whatever strange reason, I got this far down in the thread and decided to do a google image search for "uncircumcised penis." Because, well, honestly I've never actually seen one.

This was on the first page of results.

I don't even.

A coworker found this while cleaning out her recently passed away grandmother's refrigerator by jeffroeqin WTF

[–]RhapsodyQ 46 points47 points ago

This reminds me of when I would visit my grandparents' house when I was little. My grandpa always had those little pastel mints that melt in your mouth. I was scrounging for some in the cabinet, found a bag, and started to share them with my sister and mom. Until my mom realized I had pulled out a bag of marshmallows that had shriveled so much in size they very closely resembled the little mints I had been after in the first place...

Why do people re-use the same names? Why don't we create completely unique names? by Unidanin AskReddit

[–]RhapsodyQ 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, its not. She lives above me and teaches at a charter school in the Philly suburbs. I never heard of such a thing until we were talking one day and it came up. They're in her remedial reading class. Right hand to reddit.

If for some reason she is really screwing with me, consider me hoodwinked.

A friend of mine teaches twins at a school named Orangejello and Lemonjello. Or-ahn-jell-o and leh-man-jell-o.

After giving birth, guess what hospital fare the mom got as inspiration.

I will never understand this affinity black people have for bizarre names.
