How could you? The iPad supports neither Flash nor Silverlight. And HTML is not ready for rights-managed video.

The CX-5 is a CUV, not an SUV, and it ships with a relatively svelte 2.0L engine. It does 29MPG combined, which is better than many cars.

Could they have advertised a compact (their Mazda 3 or Mazda 2, for instance) instead? Sure, and I think they could/should have tried for it -- it would have gotten them less flak for the ad. But as CardboardHeatshield said, it's also worth pointing out that the message of the book is to be conservation-minded, not ecologically constipated.

Ain't nothing wrong with advertising the CX-5 as an ecologically green choice for those in the market for a CUV/SUV.

Incidentally, CryEngine3 is the engine that best supports in-engine pre-rendered cinematics, since they have an entire product based around it.

Actually, no, it doesn't mean that -- just because you render a visual from the game engine, it doesn't mean you rendered it in real time at all. Furthermore, you're not running things like sound, ai, possibly even physics --- so you can get a hell of a lot more performance from a cutscene.

More specifically, Mazda used the Lorax to promote Skyactiv for the CX-5. There's no previous-year non-Skyactiv CX-5 to compare with, but when Mazda added Skyactiv to the Mazda 3, they boosted fuel consumption from 33MPG (HWY) to 40MPG (HWY) -- so it's a pretty decent technology. The CX-5 itself has pretty much best-in-class fuel economy. Mazda wasn't just blowing hot air with the commercial.

edit: Worth disclaiming: I work in advertising, and in fact, have even previously worked on Mazda ads, accounts, and agencies. I don't currently though -- and don't really have any financial interest in the company.

Yes, but as NonTrivialPursuit said, that really means nothing in regards to how most marketers seem to use it, which is to signify uniqueness or novelty. It doesn't mean that the item is patented -- only that a patent has been applied for. I could file a patent for wiping my own butt or eating a bowl of soup, if I was bored enough.

What is the fascination with Sublime Text 2? by ZestyOnein webdev

[–]Recoil42 0 points1 point ago

What I don't get is the fascination with Sublime 2 over BBEdit. BBedit has done pretty much everything Sublime 2 does for longer than Sublime 2 has even existed. It's also just as fast.

I'm inclined to believe it's an aesthetic thing -- Sublime really has a 'coders aesthetic' that makes me think that's what has caught on -- but I'd love to hear an alternate explanation.

(I'm not suggesting that BBedit is better than Sublime --- I think the two are about even. I'm just sitting here in amazement at how fast Sublime has caught on relative to BBedit, since I think the two are about even. )

I wasn't (and am still not playing) the asshole game. You're forgetting the 1/3 per molecule of H20 that is oxygen. This is, in fact, what causes iron and steel to rust so fast in water, as I noted in another comment.

Give it a shot. I actually prefer it to Sublime -- it's left me puzzled why Sublime 2 has such a buzz surrounding it, when BBedit was doing the same things prior.

That's a decent argument. I found a few sources to essentially back that up, although it's a bit more complicated than how you put it:

How wood rots:

http://www.chris-craft.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?p=9394&sid=cda8c1a87858392ba7df8f6afae5008d#9394

http://www.star-distributing.com/howtoguides/woodrots.html

Why water rusts steel/iron faster:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_does_salt_water_rust_faster

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1665/why-does-water-cause-rust

TL;DR: Electrolysis from iron-water contact causes oxygen to be directly exposed to steel/iron and makes it rust faster.

My followup question would be -- on the wood side -- are there really no bacteria that have evolved to thrive underwater that also consume wood? Seems unlikely.

because of the lack of oxygen.

This doesn't make sense to me -- water has a higher oxygen content than air. If it is true, then why does steel/iron rust so quickly in water?
