Here's The TED Presentation About Rich People That TED Doesn't Want You To See - [article/transcript] by sondreusin politics

[–]RealDisagreer 6 points7 points ago

Yes, they use it to swap derivatives and watch peoples savings evaporate once they have collected insurance on the faild transactions and hope that government bails out the lost funds.

Unfortunately the majority of money made in the stock market now centres around speculation of future volatility. You don't make money from production anymore because that requires long term investment. The overwhelming majority of money made now is through short term stock shorts and credit swaps. - And that does not create jobs. It usually ends in the workers being laid off to recover actual losses of whatever company is being shorted.

I just got back from a stop over in Germany, I was patted down and my junk was not touched. (I was not going to the US and nor will I ever fly through the US or go to the US, which is a damn shame because individuals who are americans are as nice or nicer than Canadians. Its the American system that gives the place such a terrible name)

If you stop letting the FDA approve patented drugs that cause the cost of healthcare to become unmanagable then the prospects of Obamacare would be great. Remember, pharmeceutical companies are fortune 500 companies. The richest companies in the world are made on patented drugs in a for profit medical system. There is something fundamentally wrong with that.

Obama to Draw an Economic Line in State of the Union: "We can go in two directions. One is toward less opportunity and less fairness. Or we can fight for where I think we need to go: building an economy that works for everyone, not just a wealthy few." by unclefredin politics

[–]RealDisagreer -3 points-2 points ago

Obama surrounded himself with the exact same people who ensured derivatives would never be regulated back when they first became in vogue. I don't trust a single thing Obama says when it comes to the economy and I won't until he cuts all ties with his current economic families.

If he wants to do what he's saying, then he needs to heavily regulate the banking industry and impose tariffs for goods coming in from foreign makers - eg: that apple iphone.

Can someone explain why the MegaUpload takedown was horrible? by ctolsenin AskReddit

the defense lawyer needs to take the stance that piracy actually has no bearing on the revenues of the music industry, at all. There is no tangible way to prove that the people who pirate a movie would otherwise go and buy said movie. Instead, more than likely, said person would be more likely to go to a movie store and rent the movie from a dealer who has already paid the licencing fee.

They can not prove their case to seek financial compensation because they cannot show any actual damages.

I've never used mega upload, this is the first I've ever heard of it actually. But, could this be the new way to bankupt america? If people around the world write an open source code for a website that mimics megaupload and everyone makes a webpage megaupload1.com megaupload2.com etc to infinity, the us would run out of resources trying to do what they're doing.

hehe, not that I want to see that happen, but it would be funny.

for example, it is not illegal to download mp3's in Canada. We're not allowed to share them, but our government pays royalties to the music industry with tax payer money. We are free to download whatever music we want to.

Your analogies are garbage. Here's one for you so you know what you sound like. You live in a neighbourhood with a house that uses drugs. You haven't moved out of that neighbourhood so you are guilty of colluding with drug users and the police have every right to come in and take control of your house to ensure your neighbours don't use drugs anymore.

Explain how it isn't? If the movie industry had their movies set up like netflix and I paid a monthly fee to watch whatever I wanted, I would pay that money. The movie industry started by violating copyright law. How can you call that a laughable statement?

Why is it silly? It's a taste of what it will be like if sopa passes. The site could be gone forever if it violates copyright. Then what?

As I said above, it could be insider information on their part. They have the money to influence the legislation to make it such that their sort of communication over the internet is exempt from that law. forms of communication deemed essential for business can't be taken off the DNS registry. Who knows, but it has to be wondered.

[–]RealDisagreer 1 point2 points ago

Because we will see loop holes for said companies. Much like healthcare exemptions. People in power, have the power to negotiate their own terms. This argument could very well be something he has worked out with legislators, forms of business related means of communication are exempt from this law.

Why? How much staff will he have to hire to pre-screen everyones twitter posts before they go live in order to ensure copyright laws are upheld.

It would SUCK if sopa is passed and somebody posts a link to the pirate bay. Twitter would be down and that ceo is in prison for up to 5 years. Just look at that kid from the UK who is being extradited for hosting piracy links.
