what are some words you knowingly pronounce incorrectly? by pemblein AskReddit

[–]Raza1love 0 points1 point ago

The first time I ever saw the word inventory was playing Resident Evil. I'd never heard it pronounced, so I just assumed it was pronounced invennery (like distillery, but with m's and v's). It's ingrained in my brain now and I have to consciously aknowledge it to say it right.

To the new community of r/gamestory: What is your favorite game plot and why? by iffrazin gamestory

[–]Raza1love 2 points3 points ago

Alan Wake is literally like a novel made into a game. It's mostly the concept that grabs me, but they executed it brilliantly.

Every Uncharted game would make a smash hit blockbuster movie. The history conspiracies are interesting, but the characters that are believable and humorous take the cake.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey had one of my favorite stories up until the ending. It kept me hooked with continuous intrigue and it kept raising questions (quite a few of which aren't answered) to the end. The ending isn't enjoyable but apparently in a few years the nect one may get made.

They were the Greendale improv group in the first season I think.

I just "coincidentally" ended up in the same place as this cute boy I'd seen on the bus a few times. Working up all my confidence, I started a conversation with him. He shot me down because he's in the 11th grade. What are your most memorable socially awesome/awkward moments? by Jenicydin AskReddit

[–]Raza1love 1 point2 points ago

An almost identical scenario happened to me, except I was the 11th grade boy. I used to go running down the block from my house in this loop of a neigborhood. One night this girl in her mid-20's sort of waved me down/I stopped to see if anything was wrong (just standing under a street lamp seemed out of place). She said she lived in that loop I run in and had seen me running, and wanted to know if she could join me. Some people might've felt creeped out or had some warning lights go off, but being socially awkward myself I always cut people a break. I'm not phased at all by the awkward stuff other people do. I just roll with it. So we were jogging together and talking when she asks me for my number. She said something about "unless it has a 9 because my phone is broken", so I say "no it doesn't", start listing my number when I get to the number 9 (forgetting that yes there is a 9 in my number (yes you know one digit of my phone number, good luck with every other digit)). We then kept talking. Being awkward myself, I didn't say anything because I wanted to avoid the awkward situation of bringing it up. Eventually I felt guilty enough to actually just say "just so you know, I'm actually 17" (which is a pretty damn awkward way to say it). She just brushed it off and we jogged and talked for a little while longer. At the end she went into her house and never called... not that I expected her to. I never saw her again.

TL;DR Very similar story to the OP's with reversed roles.

What video game do you think was, and still is, ahead of its time? by WtfWhereAreMyClothesin AskReddit

Not to mention the story (the series as a whole too). Kojima was way ahead on potential future issues.

If any of you have played Stanglehold, it had bullet time in multiplayer that worked fairly well. It might've seemed cheap, but there were ways around it and it had to be earned.

The side-quests that had some kind of story behind them are the best. There's a phonograph related side-quest down the alley from the movie theater (you have to pull a ladder down). It's kind of interesting what happens. The ribbons one was definitely the best because it was the most disturbing. Just follow the ribbons.

None of the side-quests add to the main story, but some of them give insight into the twisted lives of the other people in the town and it's interesting.

I was happy to get ending A and enjoyed a relatively happy ending (everyone's done with revenge). As for understanding the reversal ending (and the game as a whole) you need to get that a major theme in the story of downpour is revenge. It solves nothing but to bring you into a living hell. The reversal ending shows the all encompassing nature of revenge. It was a lesson that Murphy had to learn, and by killing him, it puts Cunningham in his shoes (literally) for her to experience the same thing.

As for everything else, it's complicated. What silent hill is isn't entirely clear. That explains why it can end almost as if it was a dream. There is a portion that is entirely psychological to it (or at least there used to be, in 2 and 3) where it would manifest your personal demons as real. Each time someone makes a new silent hill game they make their own interpretation of it. But it always seems to be related to the personal hell of the protagonist. For example my interpretation of the red light is him being consumed by revenge (or I should say Silent Hill's physical manifestation of revenge). The entire game is him coming to terms with the consequences of his revenge (no matter how it ended he starts by getting revenge and always has some part in the death of Frank). What Silent Hill does is make your psychological demons physical things that can kill you, but if you overcome them there's a chance you escape. It's like its own separate dimension that has control over your demons and can make them real, but rejects you when they're gone.

The other characters were real, but didn't you notice how the nun and mailman dodged Murphy's questions? It has something to do with the "rules" DJ Rick brought up, and by "breaking character" (a possible "rule" I guess) he was killed. You could argue that the other characters are tools of the town for the purpose of the punishment process it takes on the protagonists. They know this, and also know that they die if they don't act accordingly. It's part of this interpretation of Silent Hill.

Word of advice: do the sidequests. Some of them weren't too interesting, but the ones that were more than made up for it (I don't want to spoil them).

The only problem were some frame rate issues occasionally, but it never crashed or anything. I loved it because the game as a whole had good atmosphere, but what I couldn't get enough of were some of the genuinely disturbing moments (hint: definitely play all the side-quests because some of them add a lot).
