TROPHY CASE

This girl is the worst person alive by MrCaliforniain sports

Ahhh. Thanks for the clarification.

So she definitely fits into that window.

Am I misunderstanding something? Didn't these events occur ten years ago, according to the article.

The NBA will suspend Miami's Dexter Pittman for 3 games, league source tells Y! by BenderTimein nba

[–]RationalUser 2 points3 points ago

Setting aside intent for the moment, I saw what Bynum did as essentially using the basketball as an excuse to hit someone. That seems really similar to what Pittman did. The location of the hit varied, but I doubt either of them were aiming too carefully (and moving targets are hard to hit, etc.). I feel that Pittman and Bynum's punishments should be comparable. I assume the NBA feels that 5 regular season games is more or less equivalent to 3 postseason games (at least, that's what I want to assume).

MWP's stuff is just a whole different category, IMO. He clearly goes insane at times on the floor and just sees red (for no obvious reason at all). And he is completely clueless that he has done anything wrong. Not really the same as someone who is frustrated or headhunting.

I disagree with your assessment that this is the "obvious" interpretation.

Why do you think it was worse than Bynum's foul (I assume you mean the hit on Barea in the playoffs last year)? I was thinking those were very similar.

Edit: I love that this has become the kind of subreddit where asking a question, in the most neutral manner possible, is getting downvoted.

So, everyone is just downvoting you and making fun of you, but in case you didn't realize, the problems you're referring to are caused by parasites within the pigeon, and would be neutralized by the act of cooking (assuming you reached an internal temperature of ~160 degrees).

There might be other reasons you wouldn't want to eat the pigeon related to contaminants (other pollutants such as metals that the pigeon was exposed to) and if the meat was kept for a while at an improper temperature secondary bacterial infections might have occurred that would produce toxins that wouldn't be good for you. But in general, cooking will alleviate the kinds of problems you're referring to.

Also, nettles are delicious if properly prepared.

The next logical step for B1G expansion? by nuxenolithin CFB

[–]RationalUser 4 points5 points ago

To be double-fair, revoking Nebraska's AAU membership was ridiculous. Nebraska's research money is still plenty competitive with other AAU schools, it's just that the medical school was spun into it's own entity on paper, thus eliminating all that research from the Nebraska portfolio. The research is still taking place, it's logistically still a U. of Nebraska program. Only a super-legalistic interpretation would suggest that Nebraska suddenly stopped doing medical research.

So say FSU & Clemson go to the B12. Which is better, the old B12 or the new? by archie_fin CFB

[–]RationalUser 1 point2 points ago

Old was better for any fan-based reason (rivalries, travel, familiarity, etc.). New seems likely to be more stable (if only because the past few years have revealed what is important to maintain stability). But the rivalries in the old B12 were getting ridiculous, and I think some time away between KU-MU is going to be a good thing.

Would Larry Bird thrive in today's NBA? by Joezmommain sports

[–]RationalUser 1 point2 points ago

He would definitely be above-average. The biggest problem is that some coaches wouldn't know what to do with a guy like him in today's NBA (he doesn't fit a current positional prototype) and wouldn't play him as much as a result. Defensively, I assume he'd be a liability (although he had super-quick hands and a really intuitive sense of where the ball was going), but offensively, you could run the whole offense through him. Even a guy like Rubio turns otherwise terrible players (read: Darko) into offensive threats. Bird was like that times a thousand.

Do you think Lakers fans shouldn't feel good about those five titles from minnesota?

Or that they don't really count? You pretty much can pack up and move history. People do it all the time.

Great article by Woj on Vinny Del Negro after game 7 win by Whittakerin nba

I've thought Del Negro was a lot better than the NBA media suggests for a while now.

But I doubt guys like Simmons are going to change their opinion. He's too easy of a target.

Big Ten's Delany: Four-team playoff shouldn't include non-division champs (NB: to win a division, you must first be in a conference.) by ZENmotherfuckerin CFB

[–]RationalUser 12 points13 points ago

The only place this is argued is in college football. I can't think of any other sport where there is any real emphasis on getting the top two teams in the finals. In fact, pro sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey) are set up to more or less prevent in-conference/in-division rivals from ever meeting for the title.

I'm not trying to say that one way is right or wrong, but this is just another way that college football is totally different than the rest of American sports.

Dispelling the rumors - Why FSU would never join the BigXII by criminolelawyerin CFB

[–]RationalUser 5 points6 points ago

I have little doubt the rumors are false, and I think the idea of FSU and Clemson joining the Big 12 is ridiculous. However, the academic argument is made on a set of rankings that are, quite frankly, complete and utter bullshit.
