TROPHY CASE

Finally got this SWEET Japanese Ennio Morricone 7-inch in the mail... by REMAIN_IN_LIGHTin vinyl

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT[S] 1 point2 points ago

Two songs from Ennio Morricone's score to A Fistful of Dollars performed by him and his orchestra.

It's an original 1968 Japanese 45. I saw the album art and had to have this. "Eastern-western" you could say. First interesting thing: the spindle adapter is built into the cut-out. I'd never seen it done like this before. Second, the art isn't a sleeve but a gatefold with front and back cover and inside spread. (If only I could read Japanese...) The record itself came in its original Victor 45 sleeve.

[TL; DR] Just a really cool looking, awesome sounding 45 from 1968 - with Clint Eastwood and Japanese lettering.

You should check out The Looks by MSTRKRFT. Their previous album. It's awesome.

It's pretty awesome. "Blue Calx" and "4" and "Jynweythek Ylow." Craziness. All of the interpretations are really cool, IMO.

Dear God –

I don't really know what to believe is real these days, but one thing I know for certain is that Aphex Twin is a bad motherfucker, and to hear some other badasses play the shit out of his music on some classical instruments – it's just enough to make me believe anything is possible and everything ethereal. So go ahead and reveal yourself, and make this shit available on vinyl. PLEASE!

Amen.

[Selling] Thievery Corporation "Cosmic Game" RSD 2012 Limited Ed of 500, 4 LP clear vinyl. Pristine Condition. by REMAIN_IN_LIGHTin VinylCollectors

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT[S] -1 points0 points ago

I'm selling this copy of Cosmic Game only for what I paid, including the sales tax. People have been gouging the price on eBay, but I only want what I have into it.

It has been opened, but handled very carefully. It is in the same condition as the day I bought it. I played it only one time.

It's a great album, their best. I just picked up another copy, so I'm selling this one.

Will be packed very securely.

EDIT: Album features The Flaming Lips, David Byrne and other guest stars.

EDIT II Sold!

One of my favorite albums of all-time. Totally badass. Wouldn't think of it as a "dance record," but everyone should check it out anyway. No brainer.

Jazz Records: Mono or Stereo? by REMAIN_IN_LIGHTin vinyl

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I guess what I was saying in terms of it sounding like you're there was that early stereo recordings were kind of thin sounding compared to mono. There's a definite clarity characteristic of them for sure, but an upright bass and drums, for instance, make more of an impact to me in mono in older recordings. I guess that's a question of engineering, too, and the way the final mix came down. Later recordings really take advantage of the shift and really place you "in the middle" of the performance while retaining the emphasis of the parts – very much in line with doetreik's comment earlier.

I agree with you. It's a taste thing. Technology definitely had an effect on this whole transformation. The re-channeled for stereo (fake stereo) versions of albums don't sound nearly as good as their mono originals. Even true stereo in its infancy sounded a little thin – I think that aligns with your point about the way stereo recording enhanced the holistic approach to production.

Good points.

If you can find one, Nights Out by Metronomy is a great dance record. It reminds me sometimes a little of Talking Heads (Speaking in Tongues era) with its eclecticism. But it's a little more electronic than that.

Here's a Grooveshark link to hear it.

"On Dancefloors" (go figure) is my favorite track. "Heartbreaker" is a great song, too.

What are the best inner and outer sleeves? by RyanTheGodin vinyl

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT 2 points3 points ago

The 5-mil outer sleeves from Acoustic Sounds are the best I've found so far. They are super clear and rigid. Worth the extra couple bucks.

Got a link to that graphic? I'm a designer, too. Just curious to see it.
