Your Top 10 Games of All Time and Why? by ScribeDin truegaming

[–]PunchSmackCow 1 point2 points ago

I totally agree. I played them when they came out (I was around twelve years old) and loved them both, but was never a huge fan of the combat. I've replayed them many times, but now the combat is really showing its age. I have trouble getting into it still. What I love about Mass Effect is how good the combat is while telling a story just as good as KOTOR's.

You should definitely give it a few more chances. A lot of people hate it at first then don't mind it once the get into the RPG elements of the game.

If it's fun, then there doesn't need to be a point.

Morrowind - I played this when I was young and it fully engaged me into a mysterious world that I could explore for days. Even Skyrim now, while amazing, does not make feel like an outlander put into a strange world the way Morrowind did.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Just... amazing.

Mass Effect 1 & 2 - I haven't played 3 yet, but the first two Mass Effect games are the only games (beside KOTOR) that have made feel such a strong emotional connection to characters. I have never cried from a character dying in a game before playing Mass Effect.

Rock Band 1 & 2 - As a musician, I'm a little biased. Rock Band is the most fun I have had playing with people sitting right next to me.

Halo 3 - One of my best friends and I have put countless hours into this game while sitting right next to each other. There is so much content between campaign, forge and multiplayer and it is one of the few games on modern consoles that understands the importance of split-screen play.

Battlefield 2 - 64 player battles, jets, tanks, squad play and a commander. This game was WAY ahead of its time. Anyone playing it when it came out in 2005 was COMPLETELY blown away. There was so much you could do and it was such a well executed game without the unlocking bullshit seen in modern first-person-shooters.

Dark Souls - Anyone who has put a lot of time into Dark Souls is a more patient person than before. This game requires an extreme amount of skill. Unlike most RPGs, being good comes almost entirely from the player and barely from his/her level or items.

I only have seven for now, but I might add more later.

What in-game decisions do you always find more appealing, and (unless you're checking out the alternative) will re-choose when you replay? by ThiZin truegaming

I played when it came out, but I think you're right (I don't remember all of them). Either way, I think they were much more significant because of how infrequent they were.

Hell yes. I love how during some climactic moments you would get a timer of about five seconds to make an important decision. Every time that happened I got an amazing adrenaline rush. Great game.

Why couldn't you just mute the video and put some tunes on? That way people like you and people like me can enjoy it the way we want as I very much enjoy the in game sounds.

I know, but it's gotten really bad here lately which is why I'm bringing it up. Muting is an option, but I definitely enjoy gameplay more when I can hear what's going on while I watch.

The Elder Scrolls Online Concept Art and Screenshots by davidmccuein gamernews

[–]PunchSmackCow 3 points4 points ago

Why is there so much hate for a game when almost no information has been released? This is concept art and screenshots from far before the game is even in beta. I think it's unfair that all the people saying "this game will suck" are getting upvoted. It's okay to not like this art, but let's wait until someone has actually played the game before deciding whether this game is bad or not.

Personally, I think it looks cool but this post definitely leaves a lot to be desired. I'm keeping my hopes up.

Can games teach important life skills? Are some platforms or genres more effective in teaching these life skills? by baymigirlin truegaming

[–]PunchSmackCow 1 point2 points ago

Definitely. I think the best example is Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. These games are brutally hard and require an extreme amount of patience to progress. You are forced to use trial and error tactics, backing in and out of combat and experimenting with different combat approaches for each new enemy. You die often and if you are impatient, you will die significantly more often.

Playing these two games made me a more patient person and I now enjoy other games noticeably more. If you approach life problems with the same mindset you use when approaching challenges in Dark Souls, then you will go far.

Worst boss ever fought in a game? by Dazzed57in truegaming

[–]PunchSmackCow 1 point2 points ago

I have to completely disagree. A lot of the bosses I could beat on my own; otherwise I looked up a guide and got through it. The final boss destroyed me repeatedly. I ended up beating him by shooting him with a bow without him attacking me by exploiting some glitch (I know, I know, not a good way to play).

In Dark Souls, on the other hand, I definitely found the final boss underwhelming and pretty easy. Many of the other bosses (especially Four Kings) I found significantly harder, and more satisfying to beat.

Recently got a smartphone (GS2), and just got Game Dev Story by naevorcin patientgamers

[–]PunchSmackCow 3 points4 points ago

I played Game Dev Story, Hot Springs Story and Mega Mall Story. The latter two were fun and I would recommend both. Hot Springs is almost like a very simple Zoo Tycoon while Mega Mall is similar but has a side view instead of a top view. Mega Mall Story was probably my favorite.

Piff the Magic Dragon. (Not as weird as you think) by ashmtin Magic

[–]PunchSmackCow 3 points4 points ago

He did not, but was pretty close. I know Penn and Teller later said that they wish Piff had fooled them so that they could have done a show with him (as his performance was so good).

What college majors should one study to pursue a career in nanotechnology? by PunchSmackCowin askscience

[–]PunchSmackCow[S] 0 points1 point ago

True, but that's very general. Chemistry and physics are also very important for certain parts of nanotechnology. That's why I'm looking for majors for specific fields within nanotechnology.

That PDF is fantastic! Your other recommendations probably won't work for me, but thanks for the help anyway.
