How do you feel about songs about metal? by Hraesvelg7in Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 1 point2 points ago

Frankly, a lot of really great New Wave of Thrash songs are the ones about thrash:

Gama Bomb has Bullet Belt, Evile has Thrasher, Fueled by Fire has Thrash is Back, Violator has Ordered to Thrash, etc cetera. Havok's DOA has the Angel of Death scream, which I guess is more of a tribute.

What newer metal bands do you think will stand the test of time? by BillMaher4Presidentin Metal

I only say Warbringer because they're somewhat innovative, and also Havok because I'm being cautiously optimistic about their "new direction" that they're trying.

4 albums, by the way, although At One with the Shadows was mostly re-recorded on Beyond the Permafrost, there are only like 4 songs that weren't re-recorded.

Yeah, I dunno, maybe Warbringer will just be one of those 'Studio bands' where they only really record good stuff and then their shows are mediocre...

I feel like some of the new wave of thrash bands will stick around- Havok, Vektor, ~Skeletonwitch (though they don't like to be labeled NWoTM), and Warbringer especially.

Dammit, why do none of the bands I love EVER come to Minnesota? I'm going to need some gas money to get to Chicago...

What bands were disappointing live? by necromundusin Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 1 point2 points ago

Bonded By Blood, for me. I saw them about two weeks ago, and they played a bunch of stuff off of their upcoming album, so I really couldn't get into it... I feel like I would have loved them if they had played more than one or two songs off of their earlier albums. (They only played Mind Pollution off "Feed the Beast", and I think one song off of "Exiled to Earth")

I disagree with the Manowar removal, but I agree with most of the other bands.

There really should be a recommendation thread for the New Wave of Thrash Metal bands...

Could have added Warpath to that as well.

Vektor- Tetrastructural Minds:

Retaliating echos puncturing my sanity

The essence of my being is only a memory

Crippling vices instilled confirm the soul to seclusion

Dissonant existence

Feelings and thoughts without resolution

Life is liquid when we're young

We paint with the colors of the sun

Time solidifies in our brains

And we paint with shades of grey

All I see are dark clouds over a sunny day

The colorful picture of life solidifies and strips away

Tetrastructural minds

What once was liquid is frozen in time

A cold cubic cell traps all hope deep inside

Amebic dark, invading

r/Metal, who's your favorite visual artist? I submit John Baizley. by scottyrobottyin Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 1 point2 points ago

I'd probably agree on Baizley, but I also submit Halseycaust: Time is Up and An Overdose of Death... as examples.

Actually, I just went to see Kittie tonight, (I was there for Bonded by Blood and Blackguard, don't judge me... :P), and I'm pretty damn well sure they cover all three...

A few questions to the athiest that were once religious by chatman_55in atheism

[–]Prince_Clovis 0 points1 point ago

  1. Probably sometime between 12 and 14, I can't really remember, but I never really believed completely, but I had more serious doubts about then...

  2. 16, maybe 15, depending on whether I knew the exact definition of the term then or not, I can't remember this one either.

  3. I was absolutely terrified of death for a long time. It definitely did take some getting used to, but ultimately, I realized two things- Not believing doesn't actually change what's going to happen, and we don't know what's going to happen, so why does it matter? Live the life you want to live, and if it was right, and the gods are just, fine, that worked well. If it was good by the Christian standards, and Shintoism was right, then you're fucked, right?

4: Not really, I occasionally argue with 3-5 bigots in my school, but it's not bad. (Although, I should add the disclaimer that I am from suburban Minnesota, so it's not that big of a deal in general...)

Kreator's Pleasure to Kill, about 9 months ago, actually.

Harsh vocal thrash metal bands? by SLYRin Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if they necessarily fit, but Skeletonwitch.

Havok is iffy, you might call them harsh vocals, though I'd doubt it. Covering Fire, anyways.

Whats the most Merch you own of one band? by Kibakuin Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 2 points3 points ago

Skeletonwitch: I have the iPod skin, the bloody logo shirt, their entire discography (I don't really have a great way of getting CD's, but I purchased the albums from iTunes) and a signed poster.

I'm a relatively new metalhead, <2 years, and I only started buying up merch a few months ago.

So, uh... Am I allowed to post stuff like this here? by ItsAllrightImRussianin Metal

[–]Prince_Clovis 3 points4 points ago

Satanist bands vs NSBM bands- I have a problem with NSBM because, unlike religious references, there's an actual, nontrivial chance of something legitimately BAD happening. Satan's not going to do shit, or God would have already smote satanist bands. Not that either of them exist.

My uncle came back from Singapore for a visit, and so I didn't get to see Testament/Anthrax/Death Angel back in October, and then I missed DRI the next month for some reason or another...
