I was a dreamboat. Now I'm a shipwreck. by ApologeticKidin funny

10 years? What backwards state do you live in? In NSW you get a new picture every time you renew your license, every 1 - 5 years.

Depends on how they value you the IPO prior to selling it, 10 @ $50 each, 1 @ $500 etc...

Usually, there is a minimum amount you can invest. Generally, you have to buy a 'parcel' to the value of $500.

Pink Floyd vs Bee Gees by Dudtain pinkfloyd

[–]Pict 5 points6 points ago

I normally don't at all like remixes, mash ups, dances versions etc etc of Pink Floyd's work. But this... this is really tastefully done, and I can appreciate it. 9/10, would watch again. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely not. The whole thing is a massively taking the piss of those organisations, and our lust for consumerism/capitalism etc.

Are you honestly trying to impress someone by saying this mans service is inadequate, and yours is far more impressive? Grow up.

Those skilled in scripting, which do you prefer for Windows environments? Batch, VB, PowerShell? Why? by vocatusin sysadmin

[–]Pict 0 points1 point ago

It's certainly not that I dont like the syntax. I would say I dont like that I struggle with the syntax. I've used VBScript for years now - I want to use PowerShell but it is just so foreign.

VBScript. But I am really keen on furthering my knowledge of Powershell, as I believe that's where we are headed.

+1. Petrol and groceries. It's hard to put a solid finger on it because I do so much flying to earn points, but I would say I've at least gotten a free flight to New York out of EDR.

Can someone please explain the hatred of Cityrail/Railcorp in Sydney? by dread22in sydney

I think it also depends a lot on your line. The East Hills line consistantly peforms poorly.

Also price.. $40+ for a weekly is just ridiculous.

Want to teach myself how to be network/systems admin. Any good book suggestions, etc? by Wamoz56in sysadmin

[–]Pict 6 points7 points ago

Maybeeeee buy a Microsoft press book with some labs, etc etc... Realistically though, you are best funnelling your money into a used HP G5 or any other server of similar vintage, installing Server 2008 R2 and HyperV. HyperV is a Virtualisation platform which will enable you to host lots of servers within the one server. This will give you experience standing up servers, as well as the basics of virtualisation (which most companies are going ape-shit over at the moment).

On each of those servers, download and use trial versions of products, as well as set up the fundamentals. Set up a mock business environment, a domain controller, an exchange server, MDT or SCCM for imaging devices. The list goes on.

Microsoft offers Server 2008 R2 for free if you are a student, or you can download an eval edition which lasts a couple of months only.

Technet, Microsoft's online resources are fantastic, go through the guides on how to set up a Domain Controller, how to deploy devices, applications etc etc.

I think this is a better spend of money and time, you are gaining real world experience, which is what I look for over 'book smarts' when employing someone.

Good luck mate.
