I quit prestiging back in December. I always wondered if these things count for weapon XP too.

Haven't gotten to play a lot lately, but here's my latest Predator... by Phrostin NAE

[–]Phrost[S] 2 points3 points ago

I mainly posted it for the 'cool' factor, but it's interesting to see how small a Predator drone actually is compared to how you see them in-game (good luck shooting it down with anything other than a Stinger).

I kinda wish they'd use the term "Hellfire Missile" instead of "Predator Missile", since that's the actual name of the missile they drop on folks (same one the AH-64 Apache shoots too). The "AGM" is a more accurate depiction of how these work, but still, it's a video game so it's not that big of a deal.

Predator Drone Pilot would be a boring video game.

A lot of sources state that the endgame was to use the serial numbers they screwed up tracking, to justify another ban, or at the very least some increased restrictions.

But yeah, people should have gotten fired, if not lynched, over it.

Umm, the DOJ specifically instructed gun store owners on border states to allow obvious straw purchases. Did you not follow the Gunwalker scandal at all?

"assault weapon" is a manufactured boogeyman term.

The Obama administration also decided that a better method of keeping American weapons out of Mexico was to force gun store owners to illegally sell firearms to Mexicans.

No worries. People who actively downvote posts that contradict their opinions are also the type who will rarely disagree with people in person; anonymity is empowering to the weak.

Trolling is simply playing a prank, faking someone out, misrepresenting yourself or your views, etc., to elicit a negative reaction; so it does work here.

It would help, but keep on mind they'll have a record of you attempting and failing selection already, and notes on your performance, personality, etc..

So whatever you do, try to make a good impression, even if you fail.

Also, there's a documentary on Netflix about SFAS, called "Two Weeks in Hell". Watch it.

This is all good stuff, really.

The bit about the running under weight; yeah, long term it's really bad for you (I know first hand... err, knee). But for guys with shorter legs, sometimes it's not an option to just lengthen your stride; you have to jog a bit.

When you do though, don't do a heel strike, land each step on the mid/forefoot, leaning forward a bit. This transfers the impact away from your knees to your calves, which are basically your body's shock absorbers.

If you can get away with not running, absolutely, don't. But some people can't do 15 minute miles at a walking pace because of simple physiology (short legs, mainly). I'm 5'10, and I've always done best by mixing it up; jogging a bit, walking a bit. This also helps take stress off certain muscles for a while, which over the course of 2-3 hours, is helpful.

Don't take it as people trying to be dicks (at least not in my case), I just want to make sure you're making an informed decision. SF is one of the hardest things to do in the Army, and definitely one of the hardest things for a human being to do in general; physically and mentally.

I work in recruiting (not a recruiter, I prep kids for Basic), and it's pretty much a running joke that 18X is a great way to get bodies into other jobs 'at the needs of the Army'. It's not because it's some kind of actual strategy on the part of the Army, just that the failure rate for people going into it is so high. And it's high enough that I wouldn't recommend that route to anyone short of a competitive triathlete/outdoor orienteering guru.

I've had a couple of buddies go to SFAS, and I know of one who actually made it and was selected into the Q-course. He was a former Marine, and spent a year training for selection, in part, by road marching every few days carrying two ammo cans filled with rocks and 60-75lbs. He'd do 10 miles through the hills (mountains) of Panama. This was after work, and on top of our daily unit PT. The guy was a goofy-looking motherfucker, but he had epic testicular fortitude.

And there's another component that isn't mentioned very often. You could make it through the entire three weeks of SFAS, successfully completing every event, challenge, obstacle, etc. and still not be selected for the Qualification course. They're not just assessing your performance, they're assessing the way you think, your personality, and how you work within a team. SF is a small, close-knit community, and if they don't think you'll fit in, for whatever reason, they won't invite you to join.

If you are really interested in getting into SF, the (arguably) smartest route would be to first spend some time in a combat arms job (Infantry, Combat Engineer, Cav Scout, etc.). Get used to how the Army does things. Learn Land Nav. Learn the little tricks and tips you can only pick up through experience, and learn Army culture before going to SFAS.

It's not the fastest route, but it's a much more practical one. I hope this helps.

Congratulations on your career in the Infantry.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I'm completely serious. If you can't do 12 miles with 45lbs on your back in under 3 hours, you're not going to make it. And if you're only at the stage where you're "printing out workouts" and trying on your boots, you're probably nowhere near that.

The diving thing? That probably won't help you one bit in SFAS. While you'll see an occasional soldier with a scuba bubble on his chest, you've got a long way to go before that's even remotely a concern. I'm SCUBA certified by PADI, and that's not even remotely a workout.

You've basically got a few months to get into Triathlon shape; not "I can finish a triathlon" shape, "I can place in the top tier of a triathlon" shape.

Oh, before you ask: NCO, 7 years active, currently an instructor for the National Guard (among many things, I teach Land Navigation).

Avaaz.org (Host of many Reddit-related petitions) currently under cyber attack by "government or large corporation". by Phrostin politics

[–]Phrost[S] -1 points0 points ago

From an email they sent out to subscribers:

Right now, the Avaaz website is under massive attack. An expert is telling us that an attack this large is likely coming from a government or large corporation, with massive, simultaneous and sophisticated assaults from across the world to take down our site.

We were expecting this. Our people-powered campaigning has been fearless, and we've taken on the world's worst actors head-on, in ways that genuinely hurt them - from the Syrian and Chinese regimes to Rupert Murdoch, Big Oil and organized crime. The Syrian dictatorship called our campaigner 'the most dangerous man in the world', and a UK inquiry recently revealed emails between Murdoch's news corporation and top levels of government saying the Avaaz campaign against Murdoch was their biggest concern. Sometimes I lie awake at night wondering when these people are going to come after us.

And it's begun. Because of top-notch security, our site is still up, but it's not enough. We need to show these actors that when they attack Avaaz, they're messing with people. And people-power can't be intimidated or silenced, it only grows stronger. Click below to donate to an Avaaz defence fund to take our security to the next level, and show our attackers that whatever they throw at us only makes us stronger...

A congressman from Ohio had cops grab the cameras of constituents during a town hall meeting, a public meeting in a public building. Steve Chabot, a Republican, had cell phones and cameras confiscated in order to “prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds” by allliein politics

The cop would have been fired after the congressman pulled sufficient strings to make it happen, in order to appease his sense of power.
