I only recently got into what.cd and haven't reached poweruser status yet (4GB uploaded and 0.75GB downloaded, 3 months in) so I can't access the invite forum. Thanks for letting me know though.

Would we be able to think without knowing any languages? by xX5xin AskReddit

[–]Phe 2 points3 points ago

There is a quick read, Seeing Voices by Oliver Sacks, that historically covers the phenomenon of pre-lingual deaf children (this implies no sign language as well) who, at a much later age, learn to sign. These people have a really interesting perspective when asked to describe their experiences prior to learning language that agrees well with your first paragraph. I won't do it justice by describing it any further than your comment, but it's a really fascinating read that is extremely pertinent to the submitter's question.

Hey Alberta. 25 yr old female here. I need some dumbed down info about the elections by seesterin alberta

[–]Phe 3 points4 points ago

I agree completely that it's not the optimal way to go about it, but if the election is on a Monday and you've never given it any thought, it's a handy little tool to get you started.

There's a great website from CBC that asks you some questions and tells you which party you most closely align with: Vote Compass

Men of reddit, if a mildly attractive woman that you did not know walked up to you in a sober setting and asked you to have sex, would you do it? by Vamprimosain AskReddit

[–]Phe 1 point2 points ago

3 things:

  1. Only 65% of men said yes, so I wouldn't say "vast" majority.

  2. It only surveyed college aged students which skews the results immensely

  3. 20% of women said yes!?!? Take notes, fellas.

Joel Plaskett's really big on the Canadian indie scene.

A really good podcast, CBC Radio 3 Podcast with Grant Lawrence, plays him all the time.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes' lead singer, Alex Ebert, has a solo album which is also fantastic - Alexander - Truth

If you like Fleet Foxes, check out Father John Misty (Fleet Foxes' former drummer).

Opportunity - Brasstronaut. This has been submitted before, but I wanted to resubmit to bring attention to a great indie band that is currently trying to raise funds for their forthcoming album (link in comment). by Phein Music

They are currently trying to raise $15,000 for their new album mainly through advance album sales on indiegogo.com. The link is here.

You've worked in many different mediums over the years, from comic books, TV, Film, Web-content and even song-writing with Dr. Horrible.

My questions are:

1) How did you come to dabble in such a wide array of media types?

2) Are there genres that you dislike and others that you love, and, if so, why?

3) Which type do you feel gives you the best ability to convey the story you envision to your audience? Which ones seem to be hindered by some characteristic or other (I'm thinking from a pure story telling viewpoint, what characteristics does each medium have that helps or hinders your story-telling ability)?

Thanks for doing this and for consistently putting out amazing content of any form!

Stayed in an amazing tree-house hotel just below Machu Picchu in Peru. Well worth the $80 a night ;) by DruLuvin travel

It really is. The food in the Andes and the Amazon regions aren't bad either, but Lima was fantastic.

We do. That's not a "blanket" of snow, it's a "light dusting" of snow.

Help a New Board Game Site by Void19in boardgames

I second the price display from amazon

Also, I always like to be able to browse all items in a page with as many different ways of sorting as possible (rating, price, date released, length of play, suggested number of players, whatever else you can think of). It would be great if the site incorporated something like that.

One last comment: in the advanced search, it would be a little easier if the tags were alphabetical. It is a small thing that is, for the most part, pretty useless but can be handy sometimes.

Overall, I really like it. In my bookmarks already.
